    Greetings from NW lower Michigan

welcome to the mob! Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, we've all been there if we shoot flinters!

    Howdy Howdah

To my knowledge, no. It's a standard Pedersoli Howdah Hunter pistol that's been reworked with a Pedersoli detachable shoulder stock added, plus the side located, front swivel mounted...of course heavily engraved and refinished. http://www.henrykrank.com/images/guns/pistolsnew/124h-58.jpg

    Loving this light double.

Loved the short video...mostly because it was followed by the classic Jess up a tree. Looks like you had a great day a fowling! Not sure I'd worry about no bunnies or wood cocks with a brace & a half of pheasants and a start for crow pie! :haha: Great day with ole Jess and to quote my bud...

    Flint pistols

Much will depend on what the source of the pistol would have been. Most of that period would have been similar to what you'd later see as Sea & Land Service pistols used by the military with longer barrels than they would later be. German guns were usually even longer in the barrel than French...

may be an year of manufacture code, I wasn't aware that was done but it's certainly possible.

    Barrel Length

Nah...just pick one and work up a useful load! :haha:

    Barrel Length

You're getting closer! I'd recommend you keep your eye on the classified section here or the gun auction sites that have muzzleloading sections. Lyman's GPR & Trade Rifle, Traditions Hawken or T/C Hawken or Renegade are good serviceable guns that can be had at good deals if you put in a...

    CONNECTICUT VALLEY ARMS (CVA)

OH good lord yes, it's amazing they did so well with stuff coming from all over. Then again, many European makers have centuries of background. Sadly, I've seen 'American Made' that would take 2nd place to any of them.

    Notable shooting experiences

Hey did a similar thing with my .72 Potsdam musket. Old bushy was on the back side of 6 inch pine trunk so I aimed where he was and let fly. Ball didn't go through but he did a double back flip and lay still. I was laughing so hard it took a while to reload and got about 6 feet from him and he...

    CONNECTICUT VALLEY ARMS (CVA)

There's been a lot of confusion about CVA and their 'Hawken' models. The St. Louis Hawken actually changed over the years...these old catalog pics may help. Original St. Louis Hawken style with large patch box cover...bottom https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/eNgAAOSwu59ZX6dX/s-l1600.jpg Later...

Excellent adventure indeed! I've hesitated telling my "Yodels" story again...scorching the hair off my face seemed a bit more educational! :rotf:

    Front sight only on BB

Absolutely right. Smoothbores, even more so then rifles, require sighting practice and repetition. It's a lot like the old joke about 'How Do You Get To Carnegie Hall?"...'practice, practice, practice!'

    CONNECTICUT VALLEY ARMS (CVA)

Yep...never could call any of them pretty but they won a fair share of matches back when and filled the freezer with Bambi burgers each year!
