    About your hunting rifles

Whoa, when they hauled all those invasive species to Australia they overlooked squirrels?🐿 We need to gather up some that are only mildly wounded and send them your way.

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Your caution is advisable for sure. I don't have any newbies anymore. They are all trained up and learned well. When I did work with them it was one at a time and I pretty much didn't do any shooting myself except for demonstration.

    Loading from the pouch?

Oh well, he did find the combo needed. I'll confess to rarely measuring patch material but I don't change up very often.

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I can only speak for myself, but all of the many Bigfoot pictures I've taken are fuzzy/blurry due to my full body shaking with fear 😨 The picture below is the only exception. Probably because it was taken at a great distance as the beast crossed a snowfield high above timberline...

    Possibles bag, hard or soft?

I'm ready to March with you on your crusade! 🤣 @Staredge that's an interesting site. I couldn't help but recall an entry in Osborne Russell's journal where he refers to his bullet pouch. Here is the title and header from @Staredge 's reference. The “Hunting Bag” of the 18th-19th Century...

    Possibles bag, hard or soft?

I like soft. I make my own and find 2.5 to 3 oz veg tan to be perfect. I always build by turning and I'll say that turning a heavy thick leather bag is extremely difficult no matter how wet they are. They are never soft enough to collapse.

Trigger problem on Lyman Great Plains .54 Cal.

With the kit guns there was often inletting that was out of alignment. It's the natural thing to assemble the kit according to factory inletting. I've seen so many investarms kits with poor inletting that it makes me think they deliberately put those stocks into the kits. ☹️

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I do the same but I size the rod so that the jag is even with the muzzle. I sized one the other day for my tc. This one is a brass rod. That way the rod stays on board for the loading procedure and is only pulled to seat the ball. My purpose was to make use of a loading block easier.

Trigger problem on Lyman Great Plains .54 Cal.

This description is throwing me off. What do you mean "the trigger will not release"? Are you trying to fire the gun with the front trigger without setting it? When you pull that trigger does it come into contact with the sear arm? This can be a matter of geometry. The trigger mechanism may...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Well, you poor thing, what with being sent out by the wife to do more hunting. 🤣 My wife wonders how I can spend so much time preparing to hunt and hunting. She's not opposed, just doesn't get it. Not complaining. I often wonder how she has put up with me for 55 years 🤔

well, the 40 cal. worked again,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Looks like you cut the jugular. Well done. I think that about settles the adequacy of a 40 for deer.

    Just about fed up…

It's either the nipple, an obstruction or cap quality. Regards obstruction, there can be enough blockage to keep the powder from getting close enough to the nipple and still allow a snapped cap to move the paper.

Patent Breech Investarms Hawken failures to fire

@Mike in FL I think you hit on the bigger factor and that's the ease of acquiring it. They also don't shoot as much so cost is stretched out over more time. A couple years ago my son in law picked up a pound of 777 for himself and two of his boys to shoot in a day long shoot. They were...

    About your hunting rifles

I don't have any "fancy" guns such that are highly decorated or relatively expensive. Not that I eschew them, more because I'm not skilled enough to make them nor able to afford them. All of my guns are hunting guns. None are "beaters".

I shortened a brass ramrod that was fitted to another gun. I wanted it to fit the tc 45. Mostly shot at the range but small game is in now.

    Cleaning Kibler Woodsrunner?

Most of my guns have wedges and tip out. If I were putting a Kibler together I'd use tiny keys and tiny escutcheons to make removal easy. All easy for me to say since I've never built one. 🤣
