Dickydalton's Robert. E. Lee Commemorative Custom

The bolt arms are the same thickness and "shortness". Ideally, the left arm (as installed . . . drivers side) needs to be strong in the vertical but "linguini" in the horizontal. The original parts were pretty much that way (Uberti's bolts are like the originals). Since this is a '70's...

New to me Colt Baby Dragoon Gen 2

Anything is possible, especially if someone has already corrected it (maybe a pic or two?). Here's what short arbors look like when installed. It just so happens that since I'm working on Dickydalton's 2nd Gen, they almost always have a "broken through" arbor hole (originals don't). So, you...

Dickydalton's Robert. E. Lee Commemorative Custom

Dickydalton sent me this 2nd gen. and requested that I do "everything" to it. So, I thought with all the questions asked lately about springs, arbors and such that I'd do a pictorial of the job so folks could see and decide what they could do themselves. So, I'll add to this as I go and answer...

    Help with Colt

The problem with the Pietta wedge is the nib sticks out past the end of the wedge instead of right at or just before the end . . . so, it falls out. Compare theirs to a Colt, Uberti, or anybody else's. They can fix the arbor but still can't make a wedge right !! 🤣 Mike

New to me Colt Baby Dragoon Gen 2

No, the arbor (a-r-b-o-r) is short. Drive the wedge in further and it will lock up the cylinder. I'm sure there was no gap between the frame and barrel lug when you bought it. If you're trying to do the "90° and swing the barrel down" test forget it, it doesn't work. That's the most...

New to me Colt Baby Dragoon Gen 2

Yes, that's normal but not always that noticeable. That was the best for a pic of a pair I'm working on. It shows better the lines you were seeing just part of. Didn't mean to sound so "know it all" but now you can see it's a rod screwed into block with a contoured hole. The originals had...

New to me Colt Baby Dragoon Gen 2

You mean like these cracks? That's what a threaded arbor looks like in a threaded hole in the frame after it's contoured. The top hole is the staking pin. Like I said . . . ya gotta know what you're looking for before you can see it. Mike

New to me Colt Baby Dragoon Gen 2

Well, those aren't cracks. That "U" shaped "crack" is what you see of the arbor (no "U") which is screwed in. The round hole above it is what you see of the "staking pin" to lock the arbor. The staking pin has a staking mark across it as well. Absolutely nothing wrong there. The hand's...

    1851 Navy Gregorelli and Uberti

That guys name was probably "Rifle" . . . . Anyway, an early (1960) that I worked on recently had a correct arbor length (proves Uberti could do it but forgot!). You can't "measure" endshake without the wedge installed. Yes, .008" is a bit much . . . I like .003" much better for...

    1851 Navy Gregorelli and Uberti

Sorry, didn't mean to leave you hanging! Several things to look at- - Is the arbor loose? ( check with a vice or a pair of pliers . . . not just your fingers). - Is the wedge correct or has it been "fitted" a little too much? - The rear of the wedge slot in the arbor should be...

    1851 Navy Gregorelli and Uberti

That's huge!! Should be a quarter of that! Is the wedge in as far as it will go? Mike
  13. 4

Well that didn't go as planed.

If a cap hull (or fragment of) holds a trigger sear from not moving forward enough, the lip of the half **** can easily damage the sear . . . especially if there's a heavy main spring powering the hammer. It's best to put a slight angle on the top edge of the lip to help cam the sear out of...

Stiff hammer Euroarms Rogers and Spencer

Funny how folks view the Italian copies as "all" of them being like "theirs" . . . If yours has a great trigger . . . they all have a great trigger. If yours has a heavy hammer . . . they all have heavy hammers. Nothing could be further from the truth!! Trigger pull weight is a...

Stiff hammer Euroarms Rogers and Spencer

The "acceptably light" trigger pull will get closer to "dangerously light" the lighter you make the mainspring . . . which is how you lighten the hammer pull. You'll end up having to address the trigger pull as well. Trigger sear engagement is more important than trigger spring weight. Mike

    Help identifying unmarked RNMA cylinder

Yes, because it's a "depth of notch" thing . . . The bolt head "adjustment" would allow both cyls to work. Mike

    Help identifying unmarked RNMA cylinder

The problem ( from your description) is the SHORT side of the bolt is too short. In other words, the bolt isn't locking up the cylinder fully. The tall side engages the tall side of the notch but the short side is too short to not allow the cylinder to rotate backwards. As the hammer...
