    Old eyes and iron sights

If you have a 1" ATF, place sandpaper on the barrel and sand the sight down to fit the 1" Takes about 15 minutes and a beer.

    Old eyes and iron sights

Try overlaying the barrel with saran wrap, lightly fill the underside of the sight with JB weld after filling the screw holes with putty. Place firmly on barrel and hold in place with rubber bands. Allow to set, clean it up and you have a perfect fit. I recommended those way early in this...

    Old eyes and iron sights

This combination of ghost ring rear and firesight front illustrates that point of front sight, press. I can use it accurately out to 125 yards, the max distance my bullet/gun combo works effectively.

.50 cal Lyman Great Plains Bullet Zero

Yes. I have even noticed a difference in cans of powder change. Not much, but some. I cannot comment on the differences in BP brands. As I have said I find it extremely accurate for TRIPLE SEVEN if you add 10% to velocity and pressure. That I have validated with at least a hundred of...

.50 cal Lyman Great Plains Bullet Zero

And if the target is 6", then the bullet will never climb more than 3" above POA nor drop 3" below the POA out to the Point Blank Range.

Then you don't have a clue what the definition of Point Blank Range is. Look it up. "Just sayin"

I don't mess with ivories. Too much of a mess especially when it is warm and you need to get the meat out and on ice. Know your gun, know your load and know the distance. Be honest about your own capabilities and take the shot if you are within the parameters. Both have their bragging rights.

95 yards. No sneaking. Couldn't have if I wanted to. She had me made the second she stepped out of the brush.

@azsixshooter Try this sight in then. 1456 fps MV with 385 grain GP bullet 50 cal 1" high at 50 yards, zero at 75 yards, 2.5" low at 100 yards. It won't be going below super sonic and still within a 6" point blank range. If 100 yards is a rare shot, use this for this season until you can...

    .58 Minie Tradjectory

My experience also with the 58 cal...You just can't push them fast enough to flatten out the trajectory to make them anything but a 100 yard gun for hunting without blowing out the skirt on minie or having terrible accuracy with even the flat base bullets.

.50 cal Lyman Great Plains Bullet Zero

Using a 6" target size (kill zone of a deer) 125 yards would be good, 120 yards better (3" drop) for max point blank. Expect 1456 fps mv with 3.6 inches of drop at 125 yards for your load as published in your post. Retained energy of 972 ft lbs should be good for your normal size White tail...

An Abomination? Not For Sensitive Viewers

No, they will not recognize it as a gun. They will spot it as not natural and not belonging.

Powder for Longer or Shorter Barrels.

Black powder does not burn at any higher rate under pressure. It is relatively pressure insensitive. What makes for higher pressure is inertia, as it takes more pressure to get the bullet moving down the barrel the heavier the bullet. The burning rate of black powder is relatively...

Wild Turkey. Keen eye sight and they see colors. And there are muzzleloader only seasons to hunt them. Make your tool fit the job.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I was a turkey hunter, I would say she is sweet looking. I rarely cry myself to sleep over other's opinions.

.54 Drop in Barrels for T/C Hawken. ?

Mr. Hoyt bored three 15/16th" hawken barrels to 54 for me if that helps your search. As for other companies, I do not know.

An excellent explanation of how various grinds (granulation) of black powder burns and the resulting pressure/energy release.

    Shortened a barrel

Those targets are perfect for the 50 yard and 100 yard sight-in. I originally was using conventional sight in targets and found myself stringing the groups. After switching, that went away and the groups also tightened considerably. 2 1/4" from center to outside edge of black, 5 1/2 " circle...
