    Thank you. Jon

Kibler Colonial .50 cal---debating on my load

With my little experience, I’ll say in my Kibler Colonial in .50, my spit patches have not fared as well as the mink oil patches.I just put a patch on top of the mink oil and let it just kind of bleed in. Accuracy didn’t seem to be affected though. Again little experience. About 40 rounds put...

    Kibler SMR flint size?

Hello, I have ordered a Kibler SMR that won’t be here for a couple months. I would like to know what size flints are needed for this lock. Emailed Jim Kibler flintlocks but haven’t received a response. Been three days. Hope someone who has one can chime in. Thank you, Jon

    Kibler .50cal.

Hatchet-Jack, fair points all. Luckily the window was the only damage not to mention my pride. This incident scared me pretty good. I stopped shooting right after. I even had to wait a bit to clean the rifle my hands were shaking so badly. I was loading under the porch in the shade. I was...

    Kibler .50cal.

The gun was at full ****. I tried to put it in half **** from full. The flint hit just hard enough on the frizzen to cause a tiny spark. My thumb never came off the ****. I’m new to blackpowder and this is a lesson I’ll not forget. Again, safety first everyone. Jon

    Kibler .50cal.

Fired my Kibler colonial today. Not a bad group at 30 yards. Had one go astray though. While loading and priming, I decided to put the hammer in the half-**** position. To simulate a hunting situation. And blamo! The gun went off, went right through the front window of the house. I don’t know...

Can I turn a set trigger set up to a single trigger set up?

Thanks for the replies everyone. The fly has been found. How something so tiny can bounce so far, I’ll never know. But everything is good again. I think I will try and make a few to keep around. This was the second time I dropped the fly so this might be a good idea. Thanks again everyone, Jon

Can I turn a set trigger set up to a single trigger set up?

It worked fine after I adjusted the main spring set screw with the fly in. But now there is nothing to keep that half **** notch from catching. It works the same now with just using the front trigger. I do have a new trigger I could install. I removed too much from the top on the current one...

Can I turn a set trigger set up to a single trigger set up?

Hi EC121. I’m worried about getting it fit right. It’s such a tiny part. A single trigger is something I’m fine with. I just don’t want to break anything. I would have to look up old posts, but I seem to remember someone posting that I could damage the tumbler. Thanks, Jon

Can I turn a set trigger set up to a single trigger set up?

Hello all. I had a problem today. I lost the fly from my L&R Bedford flintlock. I can purchase a replacement fly but I don’t think I can make it work properly. The question is, can I make this lock, that is designed for a set trigger, work on a single trigger set up? I’ve posted in the past...

Set trigger stopping at half ****

Hi pooch156. I sent my lock to L&R and they fixed my lock issues. However I still had trigger issues. I got mine working correctly by adjusting the little set screw for the trigger spring. This took some trial and error. It seemed to be a non issue at first because the trigger and lock pretty...

    Proper luster of metal parts?

Those brass finishes look really good. I’m going to have to rethink my “aged” brass finish on my build. Tenngun, what polishing compound do you use? I used white jeweler’s rouge on a felt dremel bit. It left a bit of blackened brass look to it. Jon

    Ordered a Kibler

Thanks for the replies. My main concern with any of my builds is the stock. The Bedford and Kentucky pistol are pretty much ok. The Bess however is a nightmare. It was inlet from the factory. Just horrible. From everything I’ve read about Kibler’s kits, is that the inletting is spot on. I’m very...

    Ordered a Kibler

Yes sir. I am taking a step back on my Bedford build. I messed things up so much I had to order replacement parts. I’ve learned a lot on this build. I pretty much took $1000 dollars of parts and I am in the process of turning it into a rifle that is only worth the lock and barrel. Jon

    Ordered a Kibler

Hello all, I ordered a Kibler kit. .50 Colonial, I was looking for a .50 because I still have some .50 stuff from 20+ years ago. And yes I am still working on the Track of the Wolf Bedford County rifle in .36. I also have two other builds going on. A Kentucky pistol and a Brown Bess. These are...

Tips for achieving this forearm profile

Do you mean that you find a dowel and tape sandpaper to it? I thought about this as well. I think that there is a reference to it in “Recreating the American Long Rifle”. But the jig seems overly complicated. Something like @rchas posted is much simpler. I think that could be modified to use...

Tips for achieving this forearm profile

That’s great! That was an idea I had. But the simple jig you have is a lot better than the one I was thinking about. I was thinking complicated adjustable type thing. Did you make the cutter with just files? If so, did you soften the saw blade then heat treat? I was thinking of making something...

Tips for achieving this forearm profile

Hi all, I would like to know what some of you accomplished builders do to profile your forearm wood. This is my last step to finishing this stock for now. I have some ideas but I am a bit afraid of going for it. I have some layout lines on it. You can see them in the picture. Thanks, Jon

When to test fire a new build?(flintlock)

I don’t know if I can wait until 100% finished, but I’ll get the stock done. Did some of you guys do the patch box before you test fired? All inlaying decorations done and carving? This is a Bedford County kit from TOTW by the way. If you want to know. Thanks, Jon
