    Fouling Shot before Hunting

It shoots a foot group clean and cold? At 75 yards? Then stacks them after? If that’s the case I’d get rid of it or rebarrel it. Unless you are in a very dry climate I don’t see how you don’t end up with a rusty bore if you leave it dirty for days. Where I live in SE Texas I will see rust in...

Laurel Mountain Forge rust browning with humidity box?

I’m not understanding how the process with LMF can go bad unless it was left way too long to rust or if it wasn’t rusted and carded enough? The stuff is great and I’ve had no issues with it browning or rust blueing. I make exactly two deviations from the instructions if rust blueing and...

Inherited Rifle - What is it?

Please do not restore that one!! It might benefit from some very careful preservation and I’d get it in very good hands to determine what if anything and do anything it needs. I’d send it/take it to Erik Kettenburg/Allen Martin/guys with tons of experience if I wanted to get it in shooting...

Accounting for fowling shot when hunting

Zero with a clean bore. I haven’t seen any muzzloader yet that won’t print a group clean and cold very similar in size to a fouled bore group. I’m only really worried about the clean cold shot but I don’t have any ML rifles that don’t have point of impact clean and dirty inside the main group...

    Help with sear spring length/position

I would do exactly that, right after the replacement arrived at my door and functioned as poorly. There is little risk as long as you can undo or replace the modified spring. The new spring might fix it, might not. I’d also send pictures with my request for a new spring, they might provide...

Runaway pins - flatten, bend, replace, or... ?

Jim isn’t suggesting to glue the pin in, he’s suggesting that you use a little CA to tighten the pin hole up a little. If the pin doesn’t fit after the glue use a drill to open the hole (glue) up for a snug fit on the pin. It will work, there isn’t a downside. Slight hammering of the pin or...

    Question about lugs.

The barrel inlet could or should be the same shape as the barrel, not a straight channel. The barrel supports the stock, it has to be in contact with the barrel everywhere to support the thin forend.

    Inletting black

I'd say that 5 complete rifles on one can of inletting black is conservative, and I'd say that is conservative by 2-3 rifles......

    Load development

I have a similar Investarms 54, the roundball is plenty for anything in the woods of eastex, even really big hogs, as you know they will run regardless of what they are hit with if you don't get brain or spine. Patch it tight and it will shoot tight. No idea on the 777, I use black powder in...

ADVICE on pricing this Traditions Custom Build

Wow, some responses are surprising and some not. Pretty simple question too. My opinion, list it on GB or similar, put $1000 on it and a buy it now of $800 or so. Those 'pigs' shoot well, and yours doesn't look like the 'pig' everyone else has, so now it's pretty and it will likely shoot with...

    Shortened 1-66 .45 rifle

I like Necchi answer, plus the added weight will dial the recoil back even further, get them too light and they don't hold well and kick a lot harder. Within reason for the shooter I'd keep it toward the heavy side for learning to shoot.

    SOLD PRIMING HORN

I have one of these that looks identical and it is a priming horn. Mine has a touch hole pick in the cap end where yours has a hole. I believe mine is made of oldus plasticus or fakus ivoryum, I don't think there is any way it is a natural material? But, works good and valve works good with 3...

SOLD Pending funds: Transition 60 caliber Jaeger

Gorgeous, if I hadn't already spent the money to bring in parts to build something very similar I would have bought this in a heartbeat. Superb rifle.
