    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Last memory of hunting with my dad was a fall squirrel hunt and shooting two greys. Mom fixed both that morning with gravy on biscuits or toast, can’t remember which. That country woman knew how to cook game and once I caught the hunting bug as a teenager if I brought it home she would cook it...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Wonder if any other squirrel hunters here have experienced this. During evening hunts when squirrel activity is high, before they head for the nest, I’ve noticed the woods go completely quiet for no known reason. Usually a squirrel barks an alert before the silence. When I look around to see...

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

Here is one more rifle and rig I own. It's .45 caliber but I do use it for squirrel hunting. It's a Dikar so not everyone's favorite but shoots very well. The bag and horn are from Cory Joe Stewart, one of my favorite makers. Jeff

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

Tim, I like those blocks, if you are ever making them for sale I’d buy a few. I like the old rifles too, most of mine are originals and a bit rough. I like guns that have some history, even if I don’t know what that history is. Looking forward to seeing your rifles and rigs. Jeff

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

The wife likes it too. Truth is she won't squirrel hunt but will target shoot when I go. I put the bag and horn together from two sets I had. I knew she would like the hearts and message on the horn. Jeff

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

Really good-looking gun, bag and horn. I have a fowler undergoing restoration, may need some advice on loads when I get to that point, if you don't mind. I need to start thinking about a rig for it too. Jeff

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

Kev, That is beautiful work. Tell us about the fowler. Is that an original or contemporary?

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

I believe this to be a Jack Duprey knife. Corn cob handle.

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

Thanks, it’s become an addiction. I truly appreciate the builders craftsmanship. They are however field grade guns and very rustic bags/horns which I like.

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

Another squirrel hunting rig with my wife’s 36 cap gun. The horn and message are her favorite and the youth sized rifle fits her well. Jeff

    SMALL CALIBER RIFLE BUILD

Thank you looking for the pics and for the advice. I bought the barrel from someone who special ordered from FCI, I think. I believe he waited quite some time for a special order to be made. This will be my first build above kit level so I'm excited but hope I don't muck it up. Jeff

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

My plan this year will be to take my squirrel rifle when deer hunting and take my deer rifle when squirrel hunting. I think the odds for success will improve that way.

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

I agree with that. I collected quite a few caplocks before I got bitten by the flintlock bug.

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

Will do. I need to start suffering some hearing loss and lead exposure (range time). Here is another squirrel rig of mine.

    SMALL CALIBER RIFLE BUILD

Hello Flintandsteel, Would have any pics of the rifles you built for your grandchildren? Jeff

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

.36, new to me, have not shot it yet. Hoping to change that soon.

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

Someone earlier suggested a thread to show squirrel hunting rigs. Seems squirrel hunting is very popular amongst our crowd. Here’s a pic of mine. Like to see more.
