Are preccusions as fun as flinters

Why did the military switch from flint to cap. Stupidity mostly. The typical Brit enlisted man of the time had the mentality of a duck. It takes a brain to shoot a flinter. You have to think. The other reason was economic...some military contractor had to supply caps and knowing who we're...

Are preccusions as fun as flinters

    Anyone see Tradition's new rifle?

I been wandering around town checking out the pawnshops for sidelocks. They're getting few and far between but I notice there's a ton of them thar inline puppies, they all look NEW or fired once and there's almost always powder residue in the barrel...but...what sidelocks I do find have been...

    First time Shooting Blackpowder

I have been known to take some 3f and put it in my wifes motar and pestal and make fine powder out of it. It's a marble mortar and pestal. It grinds it up pretty fine and ignites even faster than 4f. I'm not recommending you do it. I'm just telling you I have. Then again I also made my own...

    Semantics and Bore Size

Back in the early 1800's there was a hunting club for English Gentlemen. The initiation was shooting a 2 bore at a target until you hit it. Very exclusive club. Not very many smart members. The gun was responsible for more than 1 death. I pick us some of the darndest trivia in my reading!!

    Semantics and Bore Size

It ain't a cannon until it gets to be 2 and 5/8". Smaller wheeled guns than that are models... I kinda class my guns by what it shoots. 4f in the bore is a .22 and yes I have built .22's for my kids. 3f in the bore is .30 up to .54. 2f for guns up to 1". 1f(cannon powder)for everything...

    First time Shooting Blackpowder

I like a .495 ball and pillow ticking. 70g of 3f will work fine. I have ignition trouble using 3f in the pan and that usually makes me fffflinch. 4f ignites quick. I'm not a paper shooter..and you did mention you were going hunting with it.

    Burned barrel ??

get some cannon fuse load the barrel with 250 grains of 3f and two patched balls...tie it to a tree in a VERY safe place. stick the fuse in the nipple hole make sure there's powder in the hole. Light the fuse and station yourself behind a bigger tree out of the line of fire or schrapnel. I'd...

BLACKPOWDER - BUYING & SELLING PER ATF

Administrations change. Decisions made by the last one might not be binding on the next...unless it's been to the courts..and then there's always that sly sucker who doesn't care what the courts say...and he has the full resource of his department to back him...how many million of dollars are...

    English Trade Knives

My former nextdoor neighbor built a small falling trip hammer that was powered by gravity and used a homemade spring to "bounce it back" the trip locked and it was ready to use again. No welding...all hand forged parts and it disassembled into parts that weighed no more than 30 pounds each...

How do ya make good Charcloth?

that's where I got mine from...somewhere I was reading about candy making during the Regency period in England. I kept reading about candy being put in little metal boxes with hinged tops and sold to the Royal Mail Coach traverlers. The Royal Mail coach cost more to ride than the contemporary...

How do ya make good Charcloth?

One of the first jobs the apprentice gunsmith had to do was MAKE his tools. Files, screwdrivers, thread blocks, saws, hammers, vices, boring machines, reamers, riflers and the rest of the tools needed to make a flintlock rifle...he didn't go buy them, he made them...(Foxfire 5) Consider self...

has anybody ever tried the eastern..as in China, Siam and like that...compression lighter? I have one. works great. It's a thickwalled hardwood stick with a hole drilled in it. there's a dowel that fits in the hole and is pretty much the same size as the hole. Some kind of tinder is placed...
