.58cal Early Virgina arrived today from Matt Avance at TVM

I would contact Matt, something does not sound right. I have the same trigger in one of my rifles and it is an awesome trigger set and unset. With regard to the rear sight notch, just get yourself a thin file and open it up a bit, won't affect POI just helps you see the front sight.

    swivel actions by Leonard Day

The answer would be yes. They loosen up with use.

Don't be suprised if all you have to do is file the front sight. I never had a custom rifle that required rear sight adjustment.

    To recrown or not

If it is the crown I would "cone" the barrel with Joe Woods Tool.

    Double patch?

I do it all the time to use up thin patches. Performed and informal range test and no change in accuracy over a single patch.

    Bore lube

tg...It's good you wipe the petroluem based oil out before the first shot. Problem is you don't ever want to introduce any ever to the bore. The metal although on a microscopic level is porus and sucks in the oil. The idea is to over a serious of shooting, possibly a 100 shots give or take is...

    Bore lube

I use olive oil with no issues. I handle my guns regularly and it only takes a few seconds to run a freshly coated patch down the bore now and then. Use what you got or want as long as it is not petroleum based in the bore, ok for the ouside or general lubrication though.

    patch lube

Zonie, I thought about eliminating the peroxide from the mix but then I figured what the hell it can't hurt the metal because it's not straight peroxide, if anything it could only help or just be neutral. The mix works very well. I use very little to clean the gun (1/2/to 3/4 ounce), a little...

    patch lube

"Weasel Juice" :hmm: Never heard that term before. I use the same ingrediants for cleaning the barrel after a day of shooting but with the following ratios. 3-parts alcohol / 2 parts peroxide / 1 part murphy's.

Keep it simple. Pure mink oil from TOTW for hunting patches, spit for all other times.

    KIK

No...I've found it to be as I stated above year round in all conditions. :v

    KIK

:hmm: I find it to be between Goex and Swiss. A little cleaner and hotter than Goex, fouling seems softer than Goex. I believe that may be due to the alder wood used for the charcol. Allot less expense than Swiss and less expensive than Goex. Win Win in my book.

Will patch lube "weaken" powder charge?

For hunting patches I only use TOTW Mink Oil. Have left it loaded for at least two weeks more than a few times with no problems. Range work I just use plain old spit, really doesn't matter because your typically shooting within a few minutes of loading anyway.

    Day Horns...

When hunting deer I carry what I like to call a "wee horn". Holds 200 grains of powder enough for two extra shots. Squirrel hunting I use a priming horn as my day horn. Only time I carry a full size horn is shooting with my club or small game/upland bird hunting with a fowler.

    T/C Black Mountain Magnum .54

Check out this Link I would guess they were made some time in the 90's. Nothing special about them just a TC varient. Should be a good shooter with conicals.

    Bees wax finish for wood

Mix it with turpentine until you get a paste then rub it in.

Goex delivered @ $9.75 per pound

May have to reconsider that road trip. Did the math using 7% sales tax. I can get 25 pounds of KIK in cans(little hotter and cleaner than Goex) delivered for .32 cents more a pound. With gas factored in, it's a better deal, at least for me.

Goex delivered @ $9.75 per pound

25lbs loose powder in a heavy plastic bag, inside a heavy cardboard carton. Personally, after getting home I would feel more comfortable transferring it to smaller containers. If you don't have cans, I've seen some folks post here that they've just used clean / dry plastic milk jugs, coca-cola...

Goex delivered @ $9.75 per pound

Hmmm,[/url] only 90 miles from me, might have to make a little road trip myself. How are the bulk purchases packaged? Can the powder stay as is or must it be transfered into smaller containers for long term storage as it's being used?
