Good sounds like all went well! Keep up the good work. You know there will be some kids that the visit meant everything to and they will never forget it! I still remember some of the school assembly programs that we had at our school. It was time away from the regular class room, but...

    Carrying a spike hawk

Tomahawks made of steel, were introduced to the American Indian by traders. That started back in the day before the French and Indian war. They were highly treasured by all tribes. The ax as we know it here in America nowadays is an American adaptation, or pretty much an American design, not...

    Carrying a spike hawk

You know it is funny you mention this. In the book, "Firearms ,Traps and Tools of the Mountain Man" there is a quote from one of the folks who traded with the Iroquois that the spiked hawk was mostly what they wanted to trade for, they just were not interested in the normal tomahawk for trade...

    test photo of forge

That ain't no forge that's a pig roaster! :rotf: That's a sure enough forge, it ought to be big enough to get most any steel up to temp! :v You can make your own charcoal from hard wood. Just Google the process and it will work almost as good a coal!

    My rifle....finally finished!

Well personally I think I would leave it in white! It really looks good that way. I usually am not a fan of white but it can be done. It will need to be cleaned and oiled more often to keep away the rust. What most folks don't realize whether it is blueing or browning it is a coat of fine rust...

    My rifle....finally finished!

Glad it has turned out so well for you. Sometimes you just pic up one that fits so well it couldn't have been made any better if it was personally fitted to you. My dad had an ole 1897 Winchester pump shotgun that belonged to his father. If I was in a t-shirt it was good but in the winter with...

    My rifle....finally finished!

Ok thanks for the info and the pics, I saw some details in the pics that I was unable to see in the originals like the bands on the nose cap! There are some great detail in all the other photos as well. The figure in the stock caught my eye right away. My father cut down a bunch of black...

    My rifle....finally finished!

Very nice finish, really impressed with the color. It has a ton of figure in especially in the butt of the stock. All and all it looks very nice in the pic! I don't know why you guys don't do a centerfold pin up for pics!:shocked2: You know a shot from every angle there is just not enough pic...

    Overland Leather Company

Well I checked out the link and it is an interesting site. However I got to agree how to contact them is not there! I goggled them and another company comes up under that name, a company that markets modern stuff! There is something strange about this company. :idunno: The link is not from...

2013 Peep Shoot with my Bridger Hawken

Herb, you are the man, 30 pushups every morning, you make me ashamed of myself! I like how you did your copy as to the stain as well. I didn't originally catch the fact you had stripped it back on the comb of the stock to match the wear on the original!

    mtn gun

May be out of the topic area (in the Craftsman area) but real nice, and it took a Craftsman to build that! Somehow when I read the tittle I am thinking "MOUNTAIN GUN" like maybe a version of the Hawken rifle that had been used and repaired mountain man style... :idunno: When the pics opened...

2013 Peep Shoot with my Bridger Hawken

Herb, it looks like a good time was had by all! Quote: "Here I am with my Bridger Hawken I finished the day before. I have to file a larger rear sight notch, I only came in 5th out of 12 shooters at 21 targets with a score of 13. There were three 15s and Jim had a 14." Sounds like...
