    What do I have here?

The hole looks big, and too low. IMO, it should be centered at the top of the pan, so could be fixed by plunging with an endmill at the correct location, and then tapped for a removeable (or not) liner.

18th Century Artisan Show, Lewisburg, PA

I was there Friday. The weather forecast kept a lot of foot traffic away, so wasn't nearly as crowded as other years that I was there. I'm told that only a couple of vendors didn't show, but I didn't see any empty tables in the 4 rooms. No disappointment! I've since heard that it was packed...

    Your Thoughts on an Idea

I had no luck at all shooting PRBs from a TC White Mountain Carbine with TCs 1-20" twist. A paper patched conical would be what I might expect that barrel to shoot well. Keep in mind that the 30" cartridge Sharps would have a chamber at the breech, and most of that end of the barrel would have...

    lol powder

I bought some KIK ffg in white metal cans back around 2001 and the grains were a bit soft, but worked well in my flintlocks. There was another lot circa 2010 that was reportedly more dense, and the blackplowder cartridge guys seemed to like it.

    What’s this gun?

There was a longrifle show at Delmont (north of Greensburg)last weekend, and any number of guys there could have identified it.

    Old longrifle identification

That Ferree brought $12K and if the restoration is $5-6K, the total is just a fraction of its value because its an early rifle. Regarding the J Roop, my first reaction at the photos was "Upper Susquehanna" and the rifle combined with the name and family history adds value to collectors. It...

    What’s this gun?

I see a Huntingdon County patchbox, triggers, trigger guard, buttplate and J Douglass were father/son Huntingdon County makers. Sr dies 1841, Junior was born 1840, and I would opine this to be Jr's work. It appears that all of the patina is gone, suggesting that it has been heavily cleaned.

Looking to buy but don't have a clue about this long rifle. Please help! TIA!

The patchbox strikes me as "Western Pa", and the triggerguard and buttplate don't seem right for "Lancaster". Its odd that it has no cheekpiece. It appears that it has been shortened at the breech because of the rear sight location and name stamp. More photos are needed, closeup of lock...

WANTED Wanted - 62 cal flintlock rifle

New Englanders are prone to crack with .50 and .54, and the butt isn't tall or wide enough to be comfortable with .62. Besides that, there weren't NE's made in flint, and TC didn't make the greatest locks...

WANTED Wanted - 62 cal flintlock rifle

I'm checking with a guy who had a Jaeger for sale last fall. I don't recall the caliber or if single or DST. He's about an hour east of you.

Help with Jäger Rifle .62 Loads

I hunt with mink oil where the load may be in the barrel for weeks. At the range I've found avocado oil works VERY well, and better than olive oil.

Do NOT go cheap on a lock. Buy the Chambers late Ketland, or Kibler's similar lock.

Help with Jäger Rifle .62 Loads

My own Colerain .62 is 66" twist. I shoot .605" balls with .018" patches lubed with mink oil. .600" balls with .020" patch should be fine. .610" will be difficult to load with patches thick enough to fill the grooves. My normal loads are 100-120gr Goex fffg. If you're using Swiss, use ffg...

    .72 Caliber Jeager with vids.

Your bench technique is less than ideal for a heavy recoiling gun. The shooter should be more upright, so as to move with the recoil and the forend should be gripped to help control the muzzle. This is a big game rifle, and not a BB gun. In the "bench" shot, ignition seems pretty fast. I...

Your picture is good enough that I could easily read St Etienne. I would imagine is was a pretty nice flint double.
