Armi Sport - Remington Zouave help needed?

I just purchased a Armi Sport - Remington Zouave musket last week from a fellow club member. I measured the rate of twist which seems to be 1 in 48". It is a .58 of coarse. A couple of questions comes to mind. How would some of you sight this thing in for windage? Also, what shoots best...

    Tracks Flintlock Kit

Mike: Don't waste your $650 on a TOW kit! You are'nt that far from (price) from a Jim Chambers kit. I've heard nothing but good things about Jim. His rifle comes with a Getz barrel. I would seriously consider a Haynes style rifle with a 38 inch swamped Getz barrel.

    32 or 36?

Never owned a .32 or .36 rifle but probably will now that I've built pistols in each. .36 is #00 buckshot and .32 is #0. Hornady has the swaged buckshot in 5 lb boxes for pennies! I never shot so much in my life after owning this little .32! You can't beat the price.

    "Schools" of Pennsylvania Rifles

Snake-eye: Well I probably went to the extremes in my desires of what I'm building now. There were probably not that many styled like the one I'm building as far as simple southern mountain rifles. The caliber is .45 with a straight octagon barrel 7/8" across the flats. The lock I'm using is...

    "Schools" of Pennsylvania Rifles

I'm a southern gent here born in Atlanta with the rest of my life spent in South GA. My mother and her people come from the Blue Ridge mountains in the wonderful northern part of the state. Therefore I favor the Southern mountain style of longrifle - .45 caliber. Just the kind us Johney Rebs...

    Sabots in Flintlocks

    Sabots in Flintlocks

Allen: Glad you got a chance to see fot yourself just what energy is in that PRB. If you ever harvest a deer with one at the same yardage, you'll be even more convinced. It tickles my inards to find someone like yourself who has discovered the truth. All this "modern" blackpowder inlines...

    Tiger Hunt precarves

Wick: Wayne Dunlap is the man for blanks. He may have pre-carves too - I'm not sure. Pecatonica is the place for pre-carves I'm told. They do most of T.O.W.'s for them. I'm told they (TOW) just marks the price up a little.

    Sabots in Flintlocks

I second Wick's comment. I hunt with my .45 caliber flintlock longrifle using no more than 60 grains of 3f. My target load is 40 grains. It shoots most accurate with that ammount of powder. I take half of that (20 grains) add to the 40 which makes 60. I've SLAMED every deer to the...

    Sabots in Flintlocks

Allan: I hate to admit it but I just purchased a Knight IN-line muzzle loader this year. It was at a reduced price or I probably wouldn't have bought it. Having said that, it is the ONLY thing I have ever used a sabot with. It did pretty good but then it has a 1 in 28" twist. IMHO I would...

    54 Cal pistol effective range

You guys need to hunt here in Georgia. I've killed a many deer with my Ruger "Old Army". All have been within fifty yards. Normally I use the rifle but have had more chances than a few to kill a second deer with the pistol before I could reload the rifle. I have also used it to dispatch a...

    .50 caliber pistol kit

Again I like the 1 in 16". It's the same twist that the Ruger "Old Army" uses. They are .45 cal. and really shoot nice for a revolver. If I were building a single shot, I would use a 1 in 16" on anything smaller than .40 cal. Then I would use the 1 in 20" on .45 and above like Wick suggest...

    .50 caliber pistol kit

Tommy: Here's what I'd do if I had your money. For a few more dollars you can custom build you a REAL pistol. TOW sells Green Mountain pistol barrels with a 1 in 16" twist - that's what you want. Buy a pre-carved stock from Pecatonica (you'll have to inlet the lock, triggers, etc.). Buy a...

    Flint

I agree with roundball and Wick. The little Forged tool/screwdriver Wick is refering to does it for me. You can make your own and sharpen a semi-sharp edge on the tool. Strike the front of the flint lightly with the sharp edge of the tool - peck at it. After you have knapped the flint, it...

    .50 caliber pistol kit

Tommy: I don't want to discourage you from ANY particular gun but you might want to know what is legal in the NMLRA sanctioned pistol "Kentucky" match. The Kentucky pistol match - (6070) gives the following description: Any flintlock or percussion pistol, original or replica, with PLOW HANDLE...

    GPR Flintlock

I have spoke with Jim Chambers over the phone about making his touch hole bigger and even grinding a slight concave "dish" on the face. He told me not to do it at that time. He might have changed his opinion now but last year was don't do it!

    GPR Flintlock

Simple - OK. I think the one thing that helped my flintlock shoot better was a White Lightning liner period. There are a few other little things that can be read on the muzzle loaders mailing list (I think that's the name). There are so many little things that will make a difference...

    GPR Flintlock

Darkhorse: I do use the Kasenite on the face. Haven't had any trouble with cracking either. Actually if you heat frizzen to critical then dip in Kasenite, re-heat then drop in a five gallon bucket of water, the Kasenite will "pop" right off from the rapid cooling effect. I was told you...

"Prick your Lock" - a horror story

Fillmore: Every touch-hole liner I ever used (installed) for any length of time wouldn't come back out. I don't know if it is negligence on my part for not removing and cleaning/lube the liner more often or not. What I'm trying to say is that I doubt the thing had locktite put on it. It just...
