Does black powder really cause rust ? I havent seen it

Southeast Louisiana here. It can get "a bit" humid, summer or winter. I started using Liquid Wrench Penetrating Oil as a patch lube years ago. Four or five days without cleaning is no problem - though I usually get to it a day or two after shooting. (I do clean the nipple area/the pan...

    Someone Must Know For Sure

Does anyone out there know the month/year GOEX discontinued metal cans and switched to plastic canisters?

    I just aquired a 58

You'll likely be pretty happy with that barrel. I have one that I bought about ten years ago. It's a caplock, mounted on a TC Hawken stock. I did a lot of load work shortly after I got it. Below are some of the ballistics info I worked up, along with some 50 yard (from the bench) targets with...

    More tube locks.

OK, who else noticed where his hearing protection was when shooting? I'm thinking that string wrap & lube process might be just the thing with Lee REALs.

Old Stuff, What Do You Have?

Kind of a side note to this topic. I'm not sure when GOEX switched from metal cans to plastic canisters, but I think it was in sometime in 2012/2013. It may have been even earlier than that. Anyway, back then I was in the habit of buying a 25 lb. case of GOEX each year from Jack's Powder Keg...

    Charcoal

Totally agree Springerpanhead. There are beaucoup YouTube videos on making the stuff, so I can't see that's there's a liability issue. What's missing when viewing those videos is the type of discussion that would occur if Making Powder were added here as a topic under The Workshops. It would be...

    Charcoal

That's a new one for me JC. But you learn something every day. Can you "overcook" when making charcoal for our purpose? When I make charcoal I let it go well beyond the outgassing process. The completed product does not retain it's original shape, but kind of breaks itself up into smaller pieces.
