Altering a Pedersoli NW Trade musket

A well-known gunsmith once showed a couple of us that the bolt which holds the lock in place should be able to be removed with only your thumb nail for a "screw driver" if it is properly installed. Personally, I like to feel the screw tighten with a real screw driver. But that's just me...

Please tell me, what was this rifle before it got "decorated"

Jim Chambers offers this for a do-it-yourself project. It might be of some use.

    Smoothing a frizzen

You could just resole the frizzen.

    Right Now

Thanks. From what I see all shooting is off-hand.

What distance are the targets they are shooting at?

What to do? How to fix?

You might try filling it with a little hide glue.

What are your specific offhand shooting exercises if you do any?

Taking beta blockers will lower your pulse rate and, so I have read, contribute to more accurate shooting. So much so that the are banned for use by Olympic athletes in shooting sports. A North Korean shooter was expelled in 2008 because of that. Those with certain heart conditions have to...

    French Powder Horns?

OK, I finally got around to making some pictures of the horn. Note that the butt cap was fitted to the horn instead of the horn being shaped round like most of mine are. The tape measure was set on 16".

    Rifleman's cartridge box??

If he is 30 feet away it really isn't going to matter what you use.

    Rifleman's cartridge box??

Seems like it would have been easier to change the thickness of the patching rather than carry multiple sized balls.

    Kit building inlets

I problem I have had with a closely pre-inletted stocks is that you are locked into a particular barrel profile. I wanted to switch from a Colerain to a Long Hammock barrel and had to rework the barrel channel to make it fit. If there had been just a little excess wood left this could have...

    French Powder Horns?

I once bought a nice old horn from a very knowledgeable dealer in NC. It was obvious an old horn, but how old? It was plain, had come fŕom near the coast, was large and had a cord for a strap. The cord was of the type used around boats and size of the horn indicated it may have been made for...

can i grind fffg to make ffffg?

2f will work just fine for priming, so the only reason I use 4f is that it will feed through the nossle of my priming horn. If I am using a priming horn, or other such container. And a can of 4f will last me for years, so not a big deal.

    French Powder Horns?

I would love to see that book, but Amazon has only one and it is $210. So I tried a general search and found one in France for 24,39 € but it says it is «Indisponible». Probably couldn't afford he shipping anyway.

    French Powder Horns?

As I read the comments by the OP, he is interested in a conventional powder horn and not the Pulvérin or the Fourniment (which is leather and wood), all of which were used for black powder. The latter two would have been used by the Compagnies franches de la Marine.

    French Powder Horns?

For those times when I do not use a pre-rolled cartridge, I use a very plain horn with no engraving at all. For me, when doing French, it all depends on the rules of the site.

Finished smell on PC/HC Bags - how to eliminate

Some German buff leather I once used had a bad smell. I had to hang it in the basement when not in use. I heard it was because they tan it using fish oil. Whatever. But after time (meaning years) it finally went away.

    Retina issues and Recoil

The longer and heavier the barrel and gun, the less the recoil. But may be harder to shoot after 20 or more rounds.

    Chert

I used to work at a paleoindian archaeological site at a chert quarry on the Savannah River. Some of the others there could make a beautiful Clovis point, but when they tried to make a gun flint for me, it was only marginally successful. They are two very different concepts of flint knapping.

LOL, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

When most movies are made, they are much longer than finished versions you see in the theater. If the director actually did film the reloading sequences, that would be the first thing to end up on the cutting room floor.
