And that wedge IS a weak point in the open-top design--a weakness that doesn't exist in a top strap design.

Ackshually, there is torque imparted to the frame at the base of the recoil shield where it meets the frame because there is no top strap. Just imagine how beefy the frame of an open-top revolver would be if it were chambered in a modern Magnum loading. As to your reference to the Remington, I...

What are you putting your money on. Draw

As far as the Colt versus Remington argument goes, only an analysis of the structural designs can answer the question, and not having done so, myself, nor having seen an a force vector analysis, I won't weigh in on which might be stronger. I do know that people seem to shoot either one for a...

Not the strongest in describing the open-top concept doesn't mean non-lethal... I don't think @Nobody85 was implying otherwise.

Uh... You're joking, right? Trying to be facetious? You don't seriously think I was trying to actually sell something for money, do you???🤯

The only ability you lack is the ability not to be offended by differing opinions. If you don't want to learn multiple platforms, that is most certainly your prerogative, but you don't need to get personal with people because they explain the virtues of them or the virtues of learning many as...

Well, I have a deal for you! With my booklet, available for only $19.95, you too can learn to love the 1858 grip so much that you saw off your 1860 grip to match! Many people actually don't know, and they appreciate learning about it. I never said otherwise. I also heard that it was...

What are you putting your money on. Draw

It is true that the 1858 has a small grip, but if you just let your pinky go underneath it like you would with a pocket gun, it actually shoots very nicely. Try it out some time, and you will see that holding it that way results in pointing it being similar to pointing your finger. After...

That sounds a bit more like your own capability than that of the handgun. Just out of curiosity, what size black area are you using at 50yds, one-handed?

Scam Business Alert - Supposedly Selling Percussion Caps, Etc

Not only would you think these sites would be drooped, you'd think that they'd quit appearing at the top of Google searches.

Importers are different from manufacturers, though. If you look around on your revolver, you might see that it's a Pietta or Uberti.

    .44 "Dickens" challenge

That's a bummer. I bought the extra cylinders for both my Remington NMA and Colt 1860 Army right around when I got each revolver, just to make sure I wouldn't be left out in the cold from shortages in the future. You should find the cylinder you want at Midway USA, and if it isn't in stock...

I've done that before, too. It's fun!

    .44 "Dickens" challenge

Hey, that's a legitimate challenge to try. You should have had another cylinder ready, though, because the test requires 10 rounds. :p But seriously, I also like to see what I can do with a single cylinder from a BP revolver using a test designed for a modern weapon.

Scam Business Alert - Supposedly Selling Percussion Caps, Etc

Tactical Firearms and Archery is also another scam site. I was looking for percussion caps a couple months ago, and they popped up at the top of the Google search. They still do if I type in "CCI #11 Percussion Caps." I was immediately suspicious when I saw that they had 1000-cap cases in...

    Cap & Ball Cleaning/Barrel Removal

This is what I use to pull the wedge from my Traditions Trapper: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1002288387?pid=861261 I don't have to use it on my 1860, though, because the wedge comes out to where I can pull it with my finger tips after I tap it with the nylon mallet.

    New 1860 Army

If you get a good tap on that wedge with the edge of the mallet, it will pop loose. It won't take you much force to get that last bit of friction broken loose. That's what I do with my own Pietta 1860 Army when I get the wedge flush with the barrel as I remove it.

    Lead ball inside powder horn

I'm going to guess that someone tried to use the ball to replace the missing cap, and then the ball got accidentally shoved inside.
