Stock finish help...??ish to a new walnut stock

Friends, About ready to apply a finish to a newly built walnut rifle stock. It has been 25 years since I last built a rifle and frankly, dont remember exactly how I finished them. I do not want a high build "cheap shoe shine" if you know what I mean? Yet I do need durability. I remember...

    Original US Military pistols...

Thanks to all for all the information. So it seems that although Springfield did not produce these other than the prototype? They were the designers?? Since my intent is to try and collect Springfield Arms, these do fit in my plan? Sort of like having a Remington made Model 03' rifle? I have...

    stock plank starting thickness??

I am considering taking a big step forward, at least for me, in my novice gun building adventure. I have built a few long guns beginning at various stages. From total precarved stocks, to ones with just the barrel and RR done. But I now might try from a plank. I have a couple nice walnut...

    Help ID'g a musket??

There have been a few times that I was trying to sell an item or so. But actually, not this time. I try and accumulate (cant afford to collect) Springfields of all vintages. Color Case Hardening???

Anyone have any advice on how to color case harden?? I have looked over the YOUTUBE stuff. It all seems pretty complicated, and maybe a good way to ruin some good gun parts?? I see on line there are several products available that they say "simplify" it allot. Any experience?? Thanks all, Happy...

    Hunting deer with smoothbore....

I have harvested plenty of small game, squirrel, pheasant, etc with my 20 ga smoothie over the years. Yesterday here in the early PA Antlerless season I thought I'd try a round ball and see what happened. I have used round balls quite allot at SB shoots and the gun shoots very well with it's 48"...

    fuze hole size?

Who is there that is recognized as a qualified inspector?? I would prefer that. It may not be neccessary to sleeve it. Though I suppose that anything that could be done to make it stronger would be better. Can they be xrayed? Who can do that?? My family dr. actually might do that for me, if...

    fuze hole size?

I am going to put it in a hole and "test fire", or proof it. I been working on the finish and there are no flaws deep in the metal anywhere near the breech, The worst is maybe 1/16 to 1/8" deep at the very most, and not near the breech, more than hajf way out the bore. I plan on about 300 Gr...
