    Building a Powder Horn

Thank you Gerry for those kind words. Just like the saying, "One man's treasure is another man's trash," the idea of "folksy", "rustic" etc. borders on "chickenscratch". I will take that this was my first try so I will work that out. I am proud of the end result as it is functional, I didn't...

    Building a Powder Horn

I also used The book by Sibley to supplement tutorial by PathfinderNC. What I learned and will do differently next time is the boiling or heating to make the base fit a round base plug. I tried to fit an irregular space with lots of sanding. It is airtight now but it took more effort than...

    Building a Powder Horn

This is my first horn and my first attempt at scrimshaw, so please be gentle. My performance is crude and the scrim is cartoonish, but I learned a lot from the process, including a number of things I will do different with my next attempts. I was encouraged by the inspiration provided by...

    What CVA rifle is this?

Correct. Nothing to lose. Kroil+time and run some Kroil down the rifling with a patch and let it sit (no brushes please!!). I see rifling at the muzzle. You never know what you'll get till you try. As to the drum, let 'er soak then there will be a variety of ways to get it out depending on you...

    What CVA rifle is this?

I agree, Hawken. Other than some rusted over bluing and being in need of a new drum and nipple, why do you need a new barrel? What does the bore look like? If the bore is OK, I would fix that drum and reblue. The stock looks to be in way better shape than most that have sat around.

SOLD The Gunsmith of Grenville County-book by Peter Alexander

Not sure I could ever part ways with my copy. I seem to reference it at some point of every build. That's my way of saying "Great book! Buy it" if you don't have one already.

Gun from Civil War found in trash can at Gettysburg Walmart

I read on the interweb that the Confederacy traded with Italy regularly. That is how guns like Piettas and Ubertis made it to Vicksburg and other battlefields. Look it up. And the South paid for the guns with cotton that was made into the Shroud of Tourin". True story.
