How hard is it to fit RPL lock?

I put one on a T/C Hawken. Had to remove wood in the mortice for it to fit. Works great now. Use chisels. Never a dremel. You are removing little slivers of wood.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I worked on smoothing a buffalo horn. I will cut the big end square tomorrow and work on the nozzle.

    Cap or flintlock

I would ask what's the budget? If your budget is less than a Kibler, go percussion. Kibler or more, go flint.

    2023 Fall Squirrel Season...........

My muzzleloader squirrel hunting with my Airedale, Gabe, is mostly what I call armed hiking. We've killed a few, but I've had far better luck hunting without a dog. He likes the whole operation, though, and who am I to tell him no?

    2023 Fall Squirrel Season...........

I would also prefer fox squirrels. Twice the meat and a little easier to skin. Seems like they don't coexist with the greys all that well. They also sit still a lot more than greys, so easier for me to get shot with a rifle.

    2023 Fall Squirrel Season...........

I watched one take an accidental swim once while I was in a treestand bow hunting. My tree was a maple leaning over a creek. The squirrel tried to jump limb to limb over the creek and missed. He didn't seem all that concerned about it, temperature was mild at the time.

How many muzzleloaders have you built

One, a T/C Hawken flinter I put together some 30 years ago. Still use it. I replaced the lock with one I bought from a member here. Can't remember the lock maker, maybe Siler. Shot it with my grandson Wednesday.

    Can You Help?

In Missouri, our law was written a long time ago and simply refers to muzzleloaders. There were only traditional side locks, underhammers, and mule ear locks at the time. A fellow names Knight figured out he could follow the letter of the law and make it something it was not originally...

    .40 caliber deer hunt

Good to know. What weight bullet and did it completely pass through? Do you know the twist of the barrel?

    .40 caliber deer hunt

Congrats! At what distance did you shoot her? I have been considering using my 40 cal SMR, but have taken a 50 so far.

Got my first deer with a flintlock

Congrats on a great hunt and a relatively pain free safety lesson. I have also had a fall somewhat like yours and now do things as safely as I can. I'm near 70 and don't bounce like a 22 year old, so I know I can't afford to take another tumble. You are lucky to learn it now at the age you...
