What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

"What are some of the things I did today in terms of muzzleloading?" Nothing in fact: after the week's work on a Palmetto Wesson rifle: I have been to the range and shoot the Blue Ridge .45 cal. at 50 yards... 23°F. is too cold for me now, so I shot only 15 balls and I came back home...

    Percussion locks

As far as I remember, I never had any real problems with percussion locks. On the other hand, I can't say the same about some production flintlocks, some of them I even had to replace, including some Pedersoli on which it could be sometimes necessary to work too much for a hypothetical result...

    Wesson rifle by Palmetto...

Here, the fly is more or less in its theoretical place. In the full position of the hammer, normally it should stay in front of the trigger, but it is between the trigger and the wall of the frame and therefore it cannot work properly. Click on the pictures to see a larger version... ;)

    Wesson rifle by Palmetto...

Here is the biggest problem: I can't find a picture or rifle in Macronistan/Absurdistan.

    Wesson rifle by Palmetto...

Hi everybody, I just picked up and for free a Wesson Rifle .45 By Palmetto, it is a nice rifle but is something wrong inside, and I can't see what... Does somebody have an exploded view or some picture/s? The problem with this rifle is that the notches of the drum had been filed. And the other...

Polishing the bore on a new ML.............

Not cut, but changing the patch fabric for a tighter weave could be good: here the weaving is too loose, and the patch "could not be reused" (we never do, but we say that when the patch is good)...

    How to prevent this?

Saw it also frequently on Uberti and Pedersoli ... Uberti isn't what it was...

    Triple Seven..you owe yourself a 1lb

That's it, not powerful enough or too "linear", softer than Swiss or French powder, I feel like I'm shooting with a powder with too big a grain size when it's a 3Fg. All my loads are like with black powder including the volumetric dose: same weapons, same bullets, same patches, same lube, and...

    Reoad

Never and no press too. I bought all my revolvers with a loading lever, and they came with a loading lever. Maybe if I had bought a Le Mat or a retro-conversion, but I never had any desire for a Le Mat or a cap and ball handgun Peacemaker-looking...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today, at the shooting club, I was enjoying a delicious Epiphany cake with all my black powder shooting buddies... Isn't that something for black powder? :p

    Triple Seven..you owe yourself a 1lb

Something I don't quite understand... We have a shortage of black powder here in Absurdistan. I managed to get my hands on two books of T7 3Fg and tested and tried them. In revolvers and pistols, this propulsion is much too soft and far behind Swiss and French powder, I can swear that I found no...

Best way to pay with out paypal

There was already an open topic about PayPal here and a few months ago. I explained that I do not deal with these pseudo-banks... I am an old man and I work like in the last century: talk, talk, handshake, and cash. The world has evolved in the last fifty years: I have adopted bank transfer...

    What happened to Lyman Muzzleloaders?

Yep, and can you tell me who makes the moulds: Lyman for Pedersoli or Pedersoli for Lyman? - https://shop.davide-pedersoli.com/en/107-professional-bullet-moulds ... ;) I suppose that since a long time ago the Lyman rifles were made by Italian factories...

    Hardening Springs without a workspace

For what it is worth and nothing more... I make all my springs (large or small) on six refractory bricks... I use a small oxygen/propane welding torch with disposable cans for forming (with also tongs, hammers, etc.). Furthermore, I heat the red steel like cherry very clearly and let it fall...

    Sear Spring Pops Out

If the fault is on the lock plate do it with a small chisel for steel and if the default is on the spring do it with a small file... You can also make a spring for replacement with a piece of steel saw or strong clock spring (warm formed and not too hard tempered), it is really simple to do and...

Food for thought on smaller calibers for hunting big game.

IMHO, the problem is not only the caliber, but with a large caliber the hydrostatic shock is much greater since it is proportional to the caliber and velocity... So I think it's better to use a large caliber because if the bullet is not well-placed, the hydrostatic shock will do the job without...

    Square patches

It depends, for what is it, it is mostly good enough for hunting and frequently a bit baddest for target shooting at fifty yards and more... I don't think that it is very important to hunt with square or round patches and with more consequent loads than for target shooting...

    Blowing down the barrel
