    G'day from Australia

Hi mate, I’m on the Fraser Coast of Queensland. Welcome! There’s heaps of excellent advice here

How is a .32 for target work?

I’ve got my eye on a .32 flintlock by Dixie Gun Works with a Miroku barrel. It’s got some age on it but seems to have been cared for. All that I foresee using it for is target shooting (paper and swinging silhoutte). I’ve never had such a small caliber muzzleloader and I’ve read that they are...

    P maxx blackpowder ballistics website

https://www.p-max.uk/black_powder.htm This is a free website where you can input your powder granulation, bullet weight etc…and it will tell you many things about your load, including some graphs (which I don’t understand)

SOLD REDUCED PRICE Pedersoli Plainsman .50 Cal Percussion

I have one of these in .45 (made in 1976) and a mate has one in .38. I didn’t know they made a .50. There was also a flintlock version. This is a light elegant rifle and I’m proud of mine. It’s quite accurate also. If I lived in CONUS I’d grab it, but I’m in AU.

How many caps do you use in a year ?

Probably around 500 for my longrifle and 500-600 for my whitworth

Anyone ever seen a Navy Arms .31?

Thank you for your input gentlemen. I didn’t have any plans to buy it because the photos show too many weirdnesses; it’s in poor condition. I had never seen this model before and it’s a shame its a P.O.S.

    Stuck Bore Brush

Is there some way to get a grease zerk into the flash hole and pump grease up through the breech? The hydraulic pressure will push out the stuck brush

Anyone ever seen a Navy Arms .31?

https://www.ozgunsales.com/listing/123470/navy_arms_pocket_army_31.html This is for sale quite cheap but it looks strange, like a Frankenstein parts revolver.

Is there a way to postpone cleaning a ml?

I have been forced by the weather, time of day or darkness to very occasionally not be able to thoroughly clean my muzzleloaders until the next day. In those instances I’ll do a “field clean”. I clean with a moose milk solution all over the exterior of the gun and squirt some down the bore and...

    .32 Rifle selection question

A mate of mine has a Pedersoli scout flinter in .45. The dealer told him that Pedersoli use the same dimension barrel for all calibers. He’s mostly wheelchair bound and needed something lightweight to handle. The .32 or .36 calibers were heavier than the .45 because so much more barrel mass...

    CVA Frontiersman

Buy it! They are great little rifles..a poor man’s Hawken! Accurate Spanish made barrel. I even converted one to full-stock flintlock from half-stock percussion. I ordered a front half stock for a cva Kentucky rifle.

Shooting Sharps bullets in a Hawken rifle

I’d be wary if your rifle has a drum and nipple. If it has a moulded “snail” for the nipple maybe it would be ok. The conical bullet weighs far more than a patched round ball does and could build up high breech pressures

You got it ALL wrong, son…

Traditions guns don’t suck. They aren’t as good as others, but they are serviceable. The barrels are actually quite accurate. The kits have heaps of potential for someone with the tools and aptitude to improve them.

Treso ampco vs platinum lined nipple

I have used both. The Treso ampcos last about 50-60 shots before they begin to burn out. I’m shooting 90 grains under a 560grain pill. The platinum lined nipple so far has lasted maybe 300 shots with no apreciable wear. However I get a lot of misfires from clogged nippples with the platinum but...

What on earth is happening with supply of primers?

The problem is the same in Australia. The australian dealers say the Americans are hoarding everything. The Americans say the military is buying everything.

    #10 Percussion Caps?

Here is something that will get you going. The kid’s plastic ring caps for toy cap guns will work. They aren‘t as good as proper caps but they will suffice. Use a needle and remove the paper from inside the cap, exposing the chemical. If you want you can dribble a few granules of black powder...

    A Quick GOEX Update

Is anyone familiar with Captain Brett Gibbons? He’s a writer of historical books regarding the development and use of the rifle-musket and black powder. He’s also a serving ordinance officer in the US Army. He says that the US government buys every year a tremendous amount of black powder for...
