    Thompson Center 12 gauge question

You will regret not buying that New englander 12 gauge percussion. They are great all purpose hunting guns, and mine also shoot roundball very well,

    Is the "P" word OK?

@nhmoo, yup, and he talks too!

How often do you do a complete disassembly for cleaning?

On revolvers I remove the cylinder, nipples, and barrel, clean those parts well, and lube and wipe down everything with Bore Butter. No frame disassembly for me, does not seem necessary.

    Is the "P" word OK?

I fired off the last 30 grain Pyrodex pellets I had in my Uberti 1860. The pellets were from 2007 and the Labradar said the .454 ball was going slightly over 1000 fps. Accuracy was fine, loading was quick, but I prefer loose powder, either 3F Swiss or 2F Triple 7.

    Original Brown Bess

If the Alamo likes it so much, why not offer to sell to them after a professional appraisal? You may also consider consulting with a tax attorney about the effect of a charitable contribution to a museum (like the Alamo) on your tax situation.

What do you shoot in your TC New Englander

In April 2022 I killed a nice wild turkey at about 30 yards with my TC new englander, I used a modified choke, 90 grains 2F goex, and 110 grains of bismuth #4 shot from Rotometals. The tom dropped where he was standing. I will use 80 grains 2F and 100 grains of shot next time. My loading is...

What do you shoot in your TC New Englander

I have been using a .690 ball with a .020 patch, over powder card, and 80 grains 2F in my Treehawk (camo new englander). Very good accuracy at 50 yards, and I am using a screw in Cylinder choke.

TC New Englander: Fixed Choke vs. Tubes?

I have a TC New Englander and a camo TC TreeHawk, both with choke tubes and I like being able to switch from Modified for ducks, doves and turkeys to Cylinder for roundball or close in quail or grouse. With modified choke it is no problem to reload a shot load with choke in place. Full choke...

Range report with 777, Pyrodex P and Goex fffg

I am still shooting the last half of a container of 777 3F in my 1851 Uberti that was purchased in 2007 (I wrote the year of purchase on the container) and it has not lost any power, and it has not clumped. I prefer real black powder but I do keep a few cans of 777 around. I only buy 2F 777...

Bought a Manton 10 gauge this morning and I gots some questions

I would not use steel shot in any vintage gun, and I would only use steel shot in a modern made muzzleloader if I had the propor steel rated shot cups and no other alternative like lead, bismuth, etc.

    Lead vs Bismuth

Rotometals offers the best quality bismuth shot (I think it is 94% bismuth and 6% tin) but if you compare the pellets, lead is perfectly round and bismuth is not. The irregular shape of bismuth pellets results in patterns that are not as uniform as lead. I use Rotometals #4 bismuth for turkeys...

    3rd Model Dragoon

I have a Uberti 3rd model Dragoon that was worked over by Mike Brackett (Goons gunsmithing), and it is one of my prized possessions. I use 45 grains 3F and a .457 roundball. Really fun to shoot, and quite accurate. Mike put a strong spring in the lever so it does not drop down.

    Joel Clark flintlock

That is a really beautiful gun……. I think you should shoot it.

    TSS shot

TSS shot is made from tungsten and is very hard. Without a proper tungsten rated plastic wad you will damage your bore. If you want to load non-toxic shot as traditionally as possible I suggest you look at bismuth shot from rotometals.com, but bismuth is a little less dense than lead so you...

    Looking for flintlock builder

Yes, this is a hard craftsman to find that has an open order book.

    Flintlock vs Percussion Cap

I enjoy both types, but the difficulty finding caps the last 2 years has convinced me to look for a flint fowler to replace my cap lock. One less thing to purchase and one less item to carry.

Round ball size for .720 cylinder bore

I have a TC New Englander 12 gauge smooth bore and the bore measures .735 before the choke tube. I use a .690 ball with a .020 ticking patch and it shoots pretty good at 50 yards. I do install a cylinder bore choke tube when shooting round ball. This loads very easy even after a few shots.

New .44 cal. BP wadcutter bullet

I have been using a similar bullet for about 15 years, the seller is long gone, but they load quick and easy. I have a couple boxes of each size left for my Uberti Colt Navy .36. The short ones are 80 grains and the long ones are 130 grains. They cut very clean holes in paper targets.

    Pyrodex pistol pellets

I purchased a screw top can of these in 2007 and used a few pellets once in a while over the years. They were 30 grain pellets. I shot the last of them in 2020 in a Uberti 1860 Colt and the Labradar said they were shooting a .454 Hornady ball at 1000 fps. Pretty good for a 13 year old can of...

    Tc New Englander 12 gauge

@Woody Morgan those are quick loaders that hold a cap, a charge of powder and a charge of shot all premeasured so reloading is much easier. They are made by Traditions, and cost about 8 dollars. https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/85653
