How I Make A Ramrod and Range Rod

Fiberglass can be very abrasive and can damage the crown so if you use it please buy a plastic or brass muzzle protector. I've had to recrown a number of barrels for customers because of them.

What am I doing wrong? (Cleaning)

After cleaning I run a patch liberally coated with ATF (Automatic transmission fluid) to coat the bore. Never have any flash rust. It is VERY cheap and a quart will last forever.

I need a recommendation for professional grade gunsmith screwdrivers

Magna-tip from Brownells! I've used them for over 20 years. If one breaks or gets twisted they replace them.

    T/C rifle barrels labeling

Both companies took advantage of the untimely demise of Robert Tingle who developed and manufactured a very similar coil spring lock in the 50's and a single shot pistol with same handling feel and pointability of an 1851 Colt navy also using coil springs. Both took many of the lock designs and...

Anyone recognize this stamp on .50 Cal smoothbore barrel?

Thank you all for the information, with that it was pretty easy to find info on Mr. Kennedy and figure the pistol I have was from one of his kits.

Anyone recognize this stamp on .50 Cal smoothbore barrel?

Looks very much like the same stamp though this pistol is much fancier than the one I have. Even though it is plain the craftsmanship looks good, Was concerned about the barrel and how thin the breech plug is. The one in your picture looks almost identical. Guess I'm used to seeing ones 5/8"...

Anyone recognize this stamp on .50 Cal smoothbore barrel?

Picked up a really nicely built flint smoothie pistol recently. The lock is a small Siler but do not recognize the stamp on barrel. Anybody recognize it?

    T/C Pennsylvania Hunter?

As a dedicated round ball shooter this was easily my favorite TC, The stock does not have as much drop as I like so never really felt it comfortable but loved the balance. Liked it so much that when I built my current match rifle copied the length and octagon to round contour.

    Original short starter

Many barrels were coned so you could seat ball with thumb pressure. I suspect they did not try to load super tight ball and patch as many target shooter do today.

I finally started my golden age Lancaster build.

I go along with Dave. I've done restorations on dozens of old originals and many have forearms so thin they will flex without the support of the barrel. I brush on a thin coat to add some strength and waterproof the channel.

    R. Southgate Flintlock #484 Help

I've had a number of his rifles and pistols over the years and as has been mentioned most of his work was pretty crude by todays standards especially the wood work. His barrels were very good but you couldn't just order up a Siler, L&R ect. so locks and triggers ran from pretty good to just fair.

    R. Southgate Flintlock #484 Help

Sadly many people today are not even familiar with the name let alone his contributions to muzzleloading shooting sports. When he started good parts were nearly impossible to find. He made his own barrels and often used reworked old original locks, triggers and hardware.

    Desirable T/C Models

For a collector a mint Hawken "Cougar" is a good find. For me a Pennsylvania Flinter with the 32" round ball barrel would be a keeper!

Daniel Boone TV show historical accuracy

If you look close most of the rifles are trapdoor Springfield with a non functioning frizzen stuck to the side of the lock plate. Still, they are fun to watch. Wouldn't have missed it as a kid.
