    San Antonio Area

This thread has been going on for a year and I didn't contribute? Shame, shame, shame. White Smoke Brigade, I have been a member for 8 years and have never regretted a day. Great bunch of guys, the monthly shoots are for bragging rights and are informal (but safe).

CVA Mountain Rifle kit, ramrod retaining spring

R Ellis is correct. Be aware that if you install it upside down the ramrod will be locked and you will have to remove the lock and then the barrel to reposition it the correct way. No brainer, though. Enjoy your rifle, these are good shooters.

    New to black powder shooting

Welcome fellow Texan. My advice is to decide what you want to do be it hunting, target shooting, reenacting etc. and then jump in feet first ad start swimming. I just like to make big billows of white smoke. It fills my soul!

    A Flinter Pistol?

Make the caliber the same as your rifles. You won't have to have two sizes of ball. If that's not a problem then have fun.

    Cleaning between rounds

Dutch had an excellent method of working up a load by methodically changing variables one at a time. That is a tried and true method for many things. I have tried Dutch's method with good result but when it came to the dry patch method I had some reservations. I have since learned that a wet...
