How hard is shot lead ?

Magnum shot has arsenic in it. And 7.5,8,9 have even more. Here is a little article on lead. http://www.lasc.us/CastBulletAlloy.htm#grades http://www.lasc.us/Fryxell_Book_Chapter_3_alloySelectionMetallurgy.htm You can have antimony in the lead as long as you don't water drop it. Lead for...

    T/C New Englander 50 cal

I have two N/E's and both of them shoot the Lee REALS in 250 gr with 80grs of 3F with an over powder felt wad very accurately. The T/C mini balls shoot real close. but for the deer around here the 250 REALs shoot fine. If I was in an area that had Elk or Moose or Bears, I would not hesitate to...

Need help with loads and accuracy ?

It is from the time in the barrel. The slower load has more time in the barrel so recoil impulse is longer. The faster the load the less time. The more the time the more the rifle will raise.

    Found Chert

They heat treated the arrow heads. That might be why they do not spark.

    TC New Englander redo

They switched to plastic because they could not keep the stocks from cracking on the cross bolt. They replaced 3 stocks for me and finally they said they would not replace it anymore and sent me a plastic stock for my 50. I sent it back again and told them I didn't want it back. About 4 months...

    Cracked Stock

It needs to be epoxy bedded. Use pins coated in epoxy first. Then epoxy bed the tang. Then epoxy bed the barrel up to the barrel and including the lug. It will not do it again after this. There is stress in the stock. that was why it cracked. When you bed it, wrap the stock and barrel with...

Take a stick of lead out of the refillable pencils. It is graphite. Throw it in the tumbler. They come out really nice and shiny.

    smoking a mold

If you have to smoke the mold, throw it away. I use Bullplate to lube my molds. Put some on a q-tip and apply it to the top of the mold and the bottom of the sprue plate once it is up to temp. Leave the ball or whatever in the mold to apply it to the top. You will not get the galling this way.

    Help...i shattered a nipple.

Or, the hammer is not hitting square on the nipple. Can you hit a nail at a 45* angle and not bend it over? Same thing with the nipple. I can see this happen all the time with the way the CVA type guns are made. If that drum is not timed exactly to the hammer, the hammer will not hit square and...

    Going price CVA Varmint?

What seems to be a fair price for one of these? I found one that is in really great shape. Just don't know what they are worth. He wants $200 for it.

    Scored some lead today

The fuss is worth it to me. I shoot over 10K rounds of 45acp a year. over 5K 308 win a year. Add that up if you have to buy them.

    Scored some lead today

The scrap yard I go to, I can get as much soft lead as I want. They always have a few thousand lbs. of roof flashing there. They get $0.45/lb for it. I picked up 15 lbs. of pewter in the form of mugs and water vases. I gladly paid them .35/lb for it as it was in the cast pile. That is about 90%+...

    T/C 12ga. New Englander Kit

My mother bought my 50 cal. kit for me for Christmas back in 85 when I was 14. I still have it. I have always wanted the shotgun one, but they have always been too much $ if you get my drift. I don't know what I am going to do with it. I might turn it over if someone really wants it.
