I can get as much of this as I want, is it lead?

You could get a set of drawing pencils and scratch the lead with them. I believe there is a chart around here that will tell you their hardness. I'd get them though cause lead is going for $2 a pound or more.

    Patch size and Materiel

It has been talked about extensively but I don't think for awhile. Try the search feature to bring up old posts. Pillow ticking is traditional but I don't think it is the same as it was many years back. Some people use canvas, pocket drill or sometimes called drill cloth, denim, and other. It's...

    WANTED .550 ball mold

A little harder to keep the mould hot but shouldn't be a problem for a experienced caster. I keep my lead a little hotter. I did finally try what was suggested. When starting out, just fill the first one or two cavitied, then as the mould heats up, fill another, and keep doing that until you...

Real bullets 250 vs 320 for different rifle twists

The smaller one should do fine but there is more than just the twist rate that makes it shoot good.

    WANTED .550 ball mold

I don't bottom pour but the sooner you ad lead to keep the level up, the less temp difference you get when you add.

    WANTED .550 ball mold

You go through lead quick with a gang mould so have things ready and add lead often as you go or you'll run out and have to start the process over.

Real bullets 250 vs 320 for different rifle twists

I would check the twist on the one you don't know. It is probably 1-48 but not necessarily. I have a Cabelas Hawken and it is Not 1-48. It's not had to check. If iy is 1-48 the heavier one should work well.

    Carbines

I had a CVA Frontier Carbine with a 24" barrel. Nice light well balanced gun. Shot fantastic. Everyone made fun of it until I won 2 events that day. Wish I still had it.

.58 Minié ball mould from Brooks TRU-BORE Bullet Moulds

Actually it looks like it was in a box of minies and bounced around for awhile.

    Made another wood box

A lock would probably make things worse. If someone opened it and saw that it was nothing of value to them, likely would leave it behind. People buy those small safes to keep important papers in. They often get thieved and containing nothing of value to the thief but is valuable to the owner.

    Inconsistency

I usually don't swab after my shots but with my 32, if I don't swab I start getting fliers after 3 shots. Like Cynthialee stated those aren't bad groups at all but it's in our nature to try to improve things when we can.

    American Pioneer Powder

I used it at least ten years ago. Granulation seemed inconsistent. I mostly used it in my trapdoor and it shot well but nothing to brag about. These days you use what you can get.

Check your fired patches. They tell you allot.

lead hardness of patched round balls

Soft lead is more desirable that hard. I shot hard lead for years because I didn't have pure lead. It shot just fine. It cast a few thousandths larger than pure so you may have to use slightly thinner patches. Try it and see. If that's all you have then use it. I even won some events using...

He is still here, just doesn't post as often as some. Try sending him a PM. He has some youtube videos I believe.

    t/c hawkens twist rate

Most are 1/48 but some barrels were made with an RB twist but like stated most all were the traditional 1/48 twist that was originally the Hawkin twist.

    .50 Calber for Elk?

I'd wager allot of states won't allow a 50 with RBs for elk.

    Ball slipping patch

A lot of the things we do, the average shooter won't notice if it didn't happen. No problem doing them though, if it makes us feel better. Confidents in our loads does make us shoot better.
