    Barrel liner to reduce Caliber

I think Oregon Barrel Co. makes a drop in barrel in .36 or .40.

TC Hawken with vernier styled tang and globe front.

I think the raised front sight is needed to zero in on the target at closer range - with a low front sight the muzzle will be tilted to far upward at close range.

Pedersoli's online catalog has a 485 grain bullet (U526) listed as for the Gibbs.

Questions on my new half stock caplock

Possibly a Uberti Santa Fe Hawken, M, Buck probably the original owner. They were considered one of the more accurate Hawken reproductions. The earlier production guns had .53 barrels, as apparently did the original they used as a sample.

    Round ball hardness

At 50 yards I saw no difference between balls cast from scrap pipe (bhn 6) and balls cast from my range scrap (bhn 9), but that's not much difference in hardness, not much distance either.

    Optimum Font Sight Blade Width

'How ‘bout making the rear notch wider?' I prefer just to modify the front sight, the factory Tryon sight is thin stamped steel with a notched ramp to adjust for height. But it is nice to have a front sight I can see, turning 60 hasn't helped my eyesight :(

    Optimum Font Sight Blade Width

I just put a .120 width on my Pedersoli Tryon rifle but may change to a .09 width - I can't see a narrow blade anymore but may have over done it with the .120, as it totally fills the opening in the rear sight. But I can see it! I'm using the Hawken style sights from Muzzleloader Builders Supply.

Alloy or pure lead for casting conicals.

Soft lead (scrap pipe and sheet, about BHN 6) or nearly so (stick on wheel weights, about BHN 8). A maxi style bullet as loaded is slightly over bore size and is engraved by the rifling when loading, hard lead is hard to load and casts oversize. A minie style bullet as loaded is slightly under...

    False muzzle bullet shooting rifle.

.451 bore, 1-21 twist similar to what Pedersoli uses in their Mortimer and Tryon Creedmore rifles. My next choice would be .450 bore, 1-20 twist common in 45-70's. Bullet molds are pretty available for both. Nice looking gun, too bad the bore is bad.

Schuetzen 4 wing caps work fine for me.

    Witnessed Unsafe Behaviors

40 years ago I had a friend with a FIE colt 1851 replica that sort of worked - you had to rotate the cylinder by hand, I think the 'hand' was broken. The cylinder would line up with the barrel fine. Having done so I left my hand about 4 inches outside the barrel/cylinder gap which when fired...

    It's not a group...it's so bad it's not even a shotgun pattern....I need help.

If I recall correctly the historic 2 band Enfield had a 1-48 twist and progressively shallower rifling while the Euroarms has 1-66 and constant depth rifling. The Euroarms twist should work with a traditional minie yet I’ve only had the trashcan style work.
