Wheellock at CLA by Dennis Priddy

At the Stoner Creek picnic, Dennis brought his beautiful, all hand made wheellock to share. WOW! He brought it to the CLA show and allowed me to study it for a couple of hours at our table. I wish I had taken more images. Did not bring my "real" camera. It was photographed for the CLA archive so...

The Rifle Shop - Great response!

Wow... Traveling to the CLA show, sitting in the Dallas airport, I was talking to my friend Ron (who is VERY knowledgeable about Jägers & flintlock gun building) about wheellocks and building one. He said just order a set of castings from TRS and check them out. I thought.. why not, about the...

    Ottoman Guns

From what I understand... fluting was part of the "sculpting" process (along with engraving & precious metal inlay) done after the piece was assembled. Some of my highly sculpted barrels are oct on the bottom where it fits into the stock and round with a raised rib along the sight with raised...

Bolek M. Has certainly upped his game!

Sam Alfonso has a great DVD on that deep work and he calls it "Deep Relief Sculpting". I have also heard it referred to as "Chiseling". https://engraving-videos.com/product/deep_relief_sculpting_master_class/

Bolek M. Has certainly upped his game!

These 2 locks are engraved differently so they are different locks. I was not quoted a price on what he charges for the "Engraved" locks. Anybody know? I do not use faceboob... William

Got a lathe to play with... built a Cannon!

Would like to... need a bigger lathe! Nice cannon! When the time is right I will find one... 🤫 The scale you mentioned would (3x bore = breech) would reduce the .50 to about .30, not delivering as much force. Hand mortar is the next build... ...after my Jäger and pistol are completed.

Inlay and decoration in the pre flintlock era

I am of the opinion that the Ottomans were considered "mystical". Cabalistic imagery & writing on the weapon made them more powerful.

Inlay and decoration in the pre flintlock era

I think so... Many of my Hirschfänger have cabalistic & ottoman influence in the engraving & style. The "1690 German holster pistol" triggerguard from TRS has a skirted native or Ottoman pictured. Looks like a Mayan ball player except they could not touch the ball or it was death. So, maybe it...

Worked on shaping the Jäger. It's coming along slowly. After the shaping is finished, it is on to carving. Then engraving and embellishment. I am reallying enjoying this learning process! William
