Can anyone tell me anything about this rifle?

Early CVA, Jukar, Ultra Hi etc. from the 60's and early 70's. Have known people who had decent success with the percussion locks but The flintlocks are pretty much junk. You could pick one of these up for around $50.00 back then.

    Where To Find BP Supplies

You can get Black Powder at Kentucky Gun Company in Bardstown, they don't ship it and you need to call a couple days ahead so they can make sure to have it in the store. They also carry a few other supplies.

    KIBLER WOODRUNNER TALL SITE

The low sights are for the HC crowd. Most who shoot in competition will use higher sights to deal with the distortion when the barrel heats up. Personally I like the taller sight as others pointed out. Easier to adjust, with some practice you can use the taller front sight to adjust POA for...

    Flint Leather, Side Fit

You don't have to install the leather from the side to be able to adjust it and it doesn't have to touch the screw to be usable. On short flints I wrap the leather around the flint then put it in the jaws and move it around until it just sits off the frizzen at half cock. Sometime after...

    Making cane/bamboo powder measures

I used to make powder measures out of river cane, no longer have access to it. I would just use a drill bit close to the size of the hole to clean up the inside if necessary. Never used any kind of finish on them because I wanted the more primitive look of I lost my measure so I used whatever I...

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

It depends on what I am building. I am currently working on a Henry Trade Rifle which will be plain, no carving or engraving. In my opinion the carving on the Woodsrunner is just way too busy. The one that Jim Kibler did where he changed that carving to a relief carving was a much more...

Where to buy premium wood for stocks?

I have bought wood from several different companies. I have to say of the stocks I have purchased from Pecatonica I feel like I have gotten better wood than I paid for. I ordered a Rigby Precarve in plain maple with the intention of staining it too look like English Walnut which I told them...

Traditions Kentucky rifle kit build questions

Just thought of something you could do. You don't have any sights on it so flip the barrel around and install in the barrel channel with the muzzle at the breech and the top flat used as the bottom flat. Does the barrel fit down flat in the channel or is there still a gap?

Traditions Kentucky rifle kit build questions

That gap between the bottom flat is the first problem you need to work on. The bottom flat of the barrel should be resting flat on the wood. I would take the barrel out and using a long straight edge to see if there is a high spot in the barrel channel or perhaps a tight spot along the sides of...

This will give you an idea of how to file the fore stock down to look right. one question I have is where is the bottom of the barrel in relation to the barrel channel at the breech? would help to see a picture of that area without the lock also would like to see a picture of the breech, If...

Traditions Kentucky rifle kit build questions

Your touch hole looks high and some forward. Given that the breech needs to go back against the wood and down you shouldn't have a problem. Ideally the touch hole should be the sunset position. Centered in the pan and half way along the line of the top of the pan. It doesn't have to be perfect...

UPS has outdone itself. I'm actually impressed by how massive of a failure this is, even Kiblers famous crates are no match! INSURE YOUR STUFF FOLKS!

I don't see a rifle fitting in a 6" diameter PVC pipe. Most any rifle I have seen the butt plate is going to be 4 1/2" to 5" or more. Then your going to have 2" to 3" of drop on the stock. Just don't see that working.

Traditions Kentucky rifle kit build questions

It has been awhile since I have seen one of these. If my memory is correct which doesn't always work at my age the nose cap is a huge brass casting that actually conforms to the shape of all the excess wood that they left on the fore stock. The nose cap itself has excess material that needs to...

Were dealing with guns here so don't expect any sympathy from the PC crowd. A class action lawsuit is a waste of time for the victims. I have supposedly been a victim in several class action lawsuits. The last one for the settlement I got a check for $1.63. The lawyers got 100 million dollars.

The breech should be sitting up against the wood and the top of the tang should be down in the wood not sitting above it. You also have quite a lot of wood that needs to come off down the forestock, that top edge should be rounded over not square like it is.

Had one a while back from the USPS with parts for an unmentionable. The box had been ripped open and then half assed taped back up. All the empty packaging for the individual parts was in the box but the actual parts were missing.

    Read my patch...

My first question would be what does your target look like? Do you have a group or are your shots all over the place? In my experience where the balls are going is more important than what a patch looks like. I have had new rifles in the past which just shredded the patches but the shots were in...

    Flints life.

I have had flints shatter on the first shot and I have had flints that lasted through a 3 day shoot with no telling how many shots were fired. Some locks are harder on flints than others. I have one lock that I have no idea who made it but I think I could put a creek pebble in it and it would spark.
