Help ID + Condition Please - Pedersoli Rifle

My first thing would be can you get the nipple and clean out screw removed? that would give you a better idea of what condition the breech is in. Then clean the bore good, Wrap some 0000 steel wool on a cleaning jag and run it back and forth about 50 times. Not a lot of time or money invested in...

Help identifying this half stock plains Hawkins style 60cal?

I don't think it is right to condemn someone for making a low ball offer. I was told many years ago by a mentor that there is 3 prices for everything. There is the price you want to pay for the item. Then there is the price I want to get for the item. Then there is the price that we decide you...

Help identifying this half stock plains Hawkins style 60cal?

it looks to have been set up as a target rifle. I would look at the rifling. During the period this was made there was a lot of experimenting with shooting bullets. Would be interesting to see if it has a shallow groove fast twist to use bullets.

    Militia Fowlers?

The militia at that time was actually a two tier system. they had the Provincial Militia which during times of emergency you would enlist in for the duration. The colonies usually had stocks of obsolete muskets which would be issued to them. It is questionable how many of those would be...

To Bounce or not to Bounce

I started shooting competition back in the 70's so been doing it awhile. I was taught that for the most consistent accuracy you need a loading routine where you do everything the same way every time. When loading the patch and ball it should be done in one continuous stroke so that when it meets...

Training techniques to improve offhand shooting.

Began shooting back in the 70's so been doing it for awhile. One thing that helped my scores was when I realized you don't have to pull the trigger every time you shoulder your rifle. Sometimes it just doesn't feel right, maybe your muzzle dropped below your aimpoint, or your sights just didn't...

    Which group is the best?

The 55 grain is a nice group with the exception of the low shot which could be operator error. I would do a 65 grain to see what happens. I think you will find your load somewhere between 55 and 65. If this is a new barrel you have to consider that it will take some shooting to get it broke in...

    Aqua Fortis

I have seen a number of guns over the years that people have artificially striped with a blow torch. I have to say yours is the best looking one I have ever seen. I would make one suggestion. The picture is of an actual curly maple pistol stock. Look at how the grain runs through the handle on it.

    Shooting sticks

They actually have cross stick matches at friendship now that you can sit in a chair or on a bucket and use longer cross sticks. thinking about trying to get back into it. I have an under hammer kit I never put together, a nice piece of walnut and still have both of my Redfield sights. Would...

    Aqua Fortis

This was an experiment for the rifle I am currently working on which has a totally plain maple stock. I tried several different things, Potassium Permanganate, Frieberg Leather Dye, India Ink, etc. all of which I rejected for various reasons. I used Angelus black Leather dye, it is alcohol based...

Why the flare on swamped barrels?

Your looking for a short barrel .62 caliber. I would be looking at a Jaeger barrel. That would give you a barrel already around 32".
