What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I'm trying to build a new shooting bench and get logs for the posts of the 100yard backstop while pushing a stroller with my 15 month old grandson. I watch him during the week days while his parents are at work. I don't get as much done as I like but he's full of helpful advise. I think.

    Retina issues and Recoil

My most often used rifle is a 42" .45 for plinking and small game a 30gr. charge of FFG doesn't have any felt recoil and very quiet as well, even my heavier target-hiking load of 47grs. of FFG is not noticeable. 60grs, I cannot really remember any recoil from that either and should be fine for...

    Traditional sights CVA Mountain Rifle

Just make sure you get a tall enough front site and file down from there. You may want to order another set so you have options.

    Lack of younger shooters?

One thing that has always bugged the snot out of me is Black Powder groups in this area anyway don't advertise. They always say there are fewer young shooters but yet I never find Flyers in local gun shops or other public places and now even with the internet it takes some serious searching to...

    Jukar pistol info

Pretty dang sure this is a .45. If I remember right it was called a colonial belt pistol from CVA. A quick web search should give you proper cal. but these early guns were almost all in .45.

Casting for 1st time. Do I have it all?

After reading so many of these threads, one might want to check with their local fire dept and see if you can purchase a used fire suit and respiration system, complete with boots and gloves. Some of us have been casting for over 40 years and lucky( for everyone else) if we wear pants. Often...

7 Tips to Ensure Your Flintlock will work better.....

One thing that bugs the snot out of me is that so many don't have the sense to clean and OIL the lock a bit. A little oil once in awhile goes a long way.

What is a good length for an American longrifle ?

A 42" is right for most but I think a 44" barrel would be great. My early transitional .54 has a 47" I really like but still think for a all around 44" would be best.

Casting for 1st time. Do I have it all?

Sticks are heavily regulated in some parts of the country and possession of a unregistered stick will get you jammed up.

Casting for 1st time. Do I have it all?

Grab your rubber mallet, use a saw and cut the rubber end off, tap mold with wooden handle. Or use a old hawk handle, piece of dowel or a stick. Really the mallet thing will be awkward and burn the rubber anyway.

.45 caliber RB enough for deer?

    Thats kinda cute.

.45 caliber RB enough for deer?

Caliber really depends on the size of game you can shoot gophers with a .58 but smaller guns suffice but I would feel uncomfortable using a .40 or .45 on 200lb + deer but would probably hunt 80-90 pound deer with the same.

.45 caliber RB enough for deer?

When you say deer that covers a lot of ground, huge deer of the north and west or large dog sized deer common in some areas.
