    flint size ?

When I see a flint for sale and it reads 5/8" x 3/4" my way of thinking is, 5/8 wide X 3/4 length. Is this a correct assumption or what is industry standards ?, can they be any thing the seller wants them to be. The reason I ask is it seems lately that flints I have ordered have some very...

    Ballistol

Yes very much so, something that is not really given much thought. Also water from different parts of the country from varying wells, water softeners and city water systems with all the additives may give better results for some and not others.

    Triple 7 ignition problems

A bore scope will tell you exactly what is going on down inside your barrel, and if the flash hole is open into the powder chamber of the breech plug. Some times the gun is only cleaned with the loading rod and in doing that the powder chamber of the breech plug does not get cleaned correctly...

    EBAY Muzzleloading Overloaded With Junk

Never was a truer word spoken ! Last week I was at the range with My three T/C muzzle loaders, Seneca .36, Cherokee .45, Hawken .50, and 3 Colt 1851 Navies just spending the day shooting. Lots of questions, but one individual fell in love with the Seneca and said he had to have it. After some...

Do Slixshot nipples lessen cap jams in Colt style C&B?

https://www.slixprings.com/proddetail.php?prod=SliXshot-Black-Powder-Nipples The Slick Shot nipples are vented to the side so it does not force caps into hammer face, thus not pulling off caps. Polishing hammer face helps some what but not a cure all.

My new way of cleaning......with a magnet !!!

Very carefully,:) wrap an absorbent rag or sponge around end of barrel just squeezing tight enough to allow ram rod to move freely, easy to get used to.

    Shot in the bears eyes

If I had a bear close enough to be charging me, It would not matter what firearm I had, or how humane it was, I would be unloading in his face as much ammo as I could unload, hopefully. I could care less if I hurt his feelings or blinded him, or whatever, I am just trying to stay out of his...

    Traditions Hawkens accuracy help.

My take would be, polish the bore with a jag and 0000 steel wool, try different patch lubes, drop powder charge to around 70 grains, get 3f Goex, if you can not find Goex or equivalent, try Triple 7 powder 3f. Good luck

    Frizzen questions

I know there are no absolutes on this but what would be the estimated amount of flint strikes a frizzen could endure before losing sparking ability (hardness) to set off the pan powder. Also I have read articles and watched videos of re-hardening of a frizzen. Buying a new one may be the answer...
