Proper cleaning of percussion gun with drum

Thanks again everyone, all of this gives me a much better idea of function and care of my new rifle. One final thought....the Enfield is continuous form from nipple to barrel, its one thing. Can I assume that the added piece - the drum- was originally designed to facilitate the conversion of...

Proper cleaning of percussion gun with drum

Wow, guys, thanks so much, I will make sure I store and print all of your suggestions. I did have a TC fintlock years ago, so I was aware of removing the barrel, forgot to mention that. One thing that still makes me wonder, since it was brought up...the large screw on the flat of the drum is...

Proper cleaning of percussion gun with drum

Hi folks, I just bought a CVA Mountain rifle and I am gathering up a few items, # 11 caps etc., in anticipation of shooting this Spring. I thought I would as the experts out there a few questions about cleaning suggestions. I have an 1853 Enfild repo. That I shot for years and clean religiously...

    CLOSED Lyman Flintlock Trade Rifle

There is an early Lyman listed on the GB auction site. It has the look and contours of the Trade rifle, but has a patchbox. The gun is listed as "Lyman Plains rifle, .45 caplock Hawken" .....it's not a GPR......it has the appearance of the Trade rifle. Must be an early gun, perhaps before the...

Historically Incorrect, or (A Story of Thread Counting and Delrin Rods)

What an interesting discussion. It has prompted me to consider my own attraction to muzzleloaders and muzzleloader hunting. When I was a boy, I used to watch my father spend hours making new handles for a pick or an axe. He would cut and split ash, hang the narrow billots in the shed, then when...

    T/C Hawken Flintlock .45

Mornin' fellas, was reading this interesting thread this morning, retired so I can do such things now. Thought you might find it interesting to know that, just last night a TC Hawken .50 Flintock , advertised as " like new" on a well known gun auction site (don't know if I can mention name cause...

Thanks Dale, now you are really fannin' the flame! That .45 really appeals to me because of the rich, dark tone. I saw the one on Gunbroker, the seller's description of the bore sort of scared me away. There is one like your .45 on Track, but seems to be spoken for. Keep 'em comin' .....I am on...

    CLOSED Early CVA Mountain rifle

Dale, that would be great, thanks. Feel bad to see you going to the trouble of taking pictures though. I would like one of these in a .50/ .54 to have.. and to occasionally take into the PA deer woods during regular season. Tell me if I am correct - a .54 or .58 does not have a patch box, has...

Well, not real sure of year(s) but the early ones are browned barrels, maple stocks. The real early ones have hexagon ramrod thimbles and" made in USA" on the barrel. Take a look at your friends and see if it has any of these qualities. Thanks for the reply.
