    Poor man’s guns

Those listed on the monument - yes. The folks protesting the against the monument - can't say - but they were not local for the most part. It's a small town on the eastern shore of Maryland. A world away from the western shore/ Baltimore/ greater Washington DC area.

    Poor man’s guns

The town where I lived there was a monument in front of the court house. It listed the names of some young men who fought and died for the South. Outsiders pissed and moaned so much that the weak politians gave in and removed the monument. Jackasses didn't even notice or care that on the same...

    Kibler Brown Bess?

Two different animals - I like Indian Muskets at least those imported by Loyalist. The price difference is large. I would go for Kibler as it would be the most historically accurate and of the highest quality. As I am getting old - it would likely be the last and i would have to clear some out...

    Pedersoli Brown Bess ?’s

I do not know about interchangeable parts as my 22 year old Indian made smoothbore has not broken a spring or any part and sparks great.

    India Barrel Failure

Hasn't this been beaten to death by now. Those that are fine with muzzleloaders made in india are still going to be fine with them - myself included (depending upon the importer) and are not going to change their minds Those that are not fine with them are not going to change their minds...

Help - Looking for Flintlock tang screw help or a gunsmith

I recently restored an Pattern 1853 Enfield 3 band Musket that was in very bad condition. The tang screw had corroded and swollen in the stock and there was no budging it. Fortunately I could access the middle portion of the tang screw from the lock mortise and was able to use a fine diamond tip...

    India Barrel Failure

Do not fall in the trap of painting all suppliers with the middlesex experience. I have dealt with Loyalist for nearly 25 years and have had nothing but good transactions and support.

    India Barrel Failure

Despite the attitude in your first line you gave very good information on what was going on and you also perhaps inadvertently brought something else to light. The maker was identified at least to a point. Most of the comments made by folks on this topic smear all Indian made arms. Not all are...

Authenticity of Veteran Arms Brown Bess Muskets

Hi Dave - Any possibility that you could identify your excellent photos of incredibly poor quality as to which company the locks were imported by? I am surprised that you included Loyalist as I have had good quality products from them including one pistol I have had for over 20 years without any...

    F and I carbines

Maryland had a Regiment of rifleman (Rawlings Brigade) as far back as the AR and to some degree maybe further back. I am pretty sure they used private purchase arms and were responsible for General Frazier losing the number of his mess at the battle of Saratoga. I do not doubt that I will get a...

Anyone have hearing aid feed back using hearing protection muffs??

Be careful wearing your hearing aids while shooting as the sound may damage them even if worn under ear muff hearing protectors.

I found an original civil war Enfield rifle.

Absolutely agree all had some form of British proof/markings. Enfields had prolific inspectors marks on virtually every part including screws. For muskets intended for native use I believe they stamped an N above the date stamp on the lock. Also the example I have has the N stamped on the barrel...

I found an original civil war Enfield rifle.

Actually US & CS purchased Tower and Enfield rifles did not have full British markings. The locks may have had the crown BUT did not have the VR

I found an original civil war Enfield rifle.

Now that it is yours - many if not most of the Nepalese locks did not have a pin on the bridle but just attached it with two screws. The Enfield manufactured locks I have seen have a pin on the bridle as well as attaching with 2 screws.

I found an original civil war Enfield rifle.

It looks like the front side is a bead - not an Enfield sight. After the Mutiny until the Brits had switched over to the breech loading Snider, they did make smoothbore Enfield muskets for issue to native troops and civilian colonists as they did not want them to have equivalent weapons. They...

Flintolock pistol rises, never hit the target :-(

I have an East India Company Sea Service pistol circa 1790 - to 1820 date range. I took it out and ran it through it's paces and found that with light charges the shots were all over the place. I increased the charges from 30 grains to 43 and it changed the performance drastically. I was using a...
