    How to fix this?

From the look of the photo it appears to be very old (antique?). The wood appears to be uniformly shrunk with age. Steaming might bring it back to acceptable dimensions followed up with some wood rejuvenation.

    Help! Stamping Metal?

I’ve found when stamping leather that a dead weight mallet mitigates stamp bounce. Never done metal. Good luck. I really like the sitting fox on a trade gun. Let us know how it goes.

    Thinking about buying this Flinter

John Clark lived north of Toronto and died a couple of years ago. I bought the lock from him before he passed and haven’t used it. Gathering dust in my room sadly. I do have a 54 cal Lancaster rifle from one of Clark’s kits with the same lock that was largely assembled by a friend and finished...

    Any known Canadian flintlocks?

Miller a Miller had an auction of Canadiana including many percussion rifles in September, October 2021. A lot of brief information pieces on the makers. The attached photo shows a lot, but not all of the offerings. You can expand the photo. It is made from screen shots from the Miller and...

    John Manton flintlock shotgun

Welcome from Canada! I have only test fired this double percussion. Not a Manton and 15 gauge (advertised as 12), but a beautiful little gun for a total of $300 CDN at online auction. Had to replace a back site and Ren wax to bring her to life. Hope Montana wildlife cooperate!

    Percussion turn barrel pistol question

I guess these double barreled side by side percussion pistols have affected my thinking. They are small pocket pistols and when put in half cock, safety, position the hammers remain very low and do not allow the caps to come off the nipple even if they have been jarred loose. The springs are...

    Percussion turn barrel pistol question

Personally,I disagree about the clearance. Here are photos from a google search on turn barrel percussion pistols. That is why I expected the gun I purchased likely had the nipple guard bent since it also appears to be right up against the trigger guard. I’d be happier if I could just leave it...

    Percussion turn barrel pistol question

Most every picture of period turn barrel pistols shows the nipple covered close enough to stop the loss of the cap if it were to be loosened. With a trigger guard or not as in the photo below.

    Percussion turn barrel pistol question

Thanks. I thought it was meant to protect the cap from being removed from the nipple while in a pocket. The distance being less than the cap length. I didn’t think it was meant to hold the cap on the nipple.

    Percussion turn barrel pistol question

Just picked up this pistol acquired at auction last week. As I suspected the hook in front of the trigger guard that is meant to hold the percussion cap in place has been bent into the trigger guard and allows the cap to fall off. My ignorance of metallurgy leads me to seek advice on the safest...

I Don't Know How To Explain My Pouch Stitching Style.....So.....Pictures

I’ve been doing leatherwork for the last ten years and have made a lot of bags. I’ve gotten to like a a gusseted and double welted seam. I didn’t invent this. There is a YouTube leatherworker, I believe called the leatherman who inspired me. I line the flap with the same leather to add some...

Kentuckian reno with butt cap added

Thanks for the comment. I like the look of the pistol much more with the butt cap. I got another one and did the same treatment - so I had a nice brace of Kentuckian pistols for awhile. I eventually auctioned one off.

Kentuckian reno with butt cap added

Thought I would share a before and after compilation of a Euroarms Kentuckian flintlock pistol I purchased at auction a few years ago. Stripped it down, refinished the stock after adding a TOTW butt plate and cleaned up the rust.

What got you interested in flintlocks?

For a year when I was 10 years old in 1957, there was a tv show called Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans. There were a total of 39 1/2 hour episodes one a week at about 5:30 after school. The thing about them was they were filmed in southern Ontario not far from where I roamed outside in the...

What kind of stuff do you all read?

For muzzleloader times try this Bush Runner: The Adventures of Pierre-Esprit Radisson Amazing how many times these early French explorers crossed the oceans. The history in this book was way better researched than I expected.

    New at 78 yrs old

Well at 76 with 1/3 of my colon left and two years since surgery I’m really happy I indulged this interest when I retired 10 years ago and found a club really close to my home. I’ve learned a lot from club members, the Internet, and now this forum. Enjoy the exploration. It’s a blast.

Let's see your Belt or Rifleman's knife

This knife purchased through Crazy Crow from Pakistan. Filed off the markings. I scrimshawed the bone handle, used the good leather sheath as an insert for the beaded buckskin sheath acquired through auction.

    Ugly pedersoli

They are a beautiful gun. Got mine at auction for a bid of a little over $500 CDN. It was advertised simply as Pedersoli Hawken. I looked it up and realized it was $2,000 gun. I sold it a month ago for a bid of $1,025. Thought it might go higher. It was properly advertised. All told with auction...
