    where to buy black powder

I just got some 3f from Powder Valley. Have used them and Grafs before, it is best if you can either order 4+lbs at once or go in on a shipment with a local buddy or add in percussion caps, etc. to amortize the hazmat fee down to a reasonable per-item cost Edit - and as for a phone app for...

    REAL or maxi ball

My CVA .54 with a 1:48 barrel does fine-for-hunting accuracy with a 425gr maxi from Dixie Gun Works.

    Ball Pullers

Ripped right out of the top of a maxiball for me... For my revolver I used a 3" drywall screw since I could remove cylinder, etc.

Why does smokeless powder peel open a muzzleloader like a banana?

Because 22gr by weight of say, Accurate 5744 takes the same volume as about 30gr of 3Fg black powder, but while the 3Fg will generate very low pressures (less than 10k psi even with no air space) the 5744 will generate nearly 50k psi in pressures in even less time than the BP. That said, there...

    RB or REAL bullet

Read over on teh modern forum shooter reporting running a maxi over a wad and big charge and getting acceptable groups with a 1:60 twist... Personally I say try it, you have nothing to loose but some time, lead and powder.

    1-48" bullet choice for elk

I'm only range plinking now but pigs may be in my future, and I'm planning on using the .54 Maxi's I got from Dixie Gun Works. 425gr, certainly gives me a solid thump in front of 80 to 100gr of 3f.

    Caliber choice for first rifle

The thing that .50 has going for it over all the others is the availability, both in variety and just being there, of bullets and such. Big box stores, small mom-n-pops the only thing you are likely to find is .50 stuff, and even on muzzle loader specific sites like Dixie, etc the variety of...

    lube

Start with crisco and add either beeswax (firm/stiffen/harden) or lanolin (make sticky). 50/50 beeswax/crisco w/o lanolin is OK for hot florida summer time, stayed "right" when bore butter would litterally pour out as a liquid. Be aware if you go mixing your own (and you probably should) that...

Help On Refining Lube for Maxis

As said earlier, beeswax hardens, lanolin makes sticky. My 50/50 crisco/beeswax mix does an OK job of staying in place for the most part (started it in hot Florida summer), but I want to go up on Crisco and add lanolin for sticky. One thing you need to watch for is that the wax and crisco can...

    What type of image file

Filename and extension have nothing to do with what type of file it is, and only MS Windows is dumb enough to base its decisions on the file extension. @82Tank - if you can't figure out the image type feel free to PM me and we may be able to get ya going... Though the easiest way to post a...

    Maxi Ball Questions

For the lube, beeswax will harden and lanolin will make sticky. I've done my own 50/50 crisco/beeswax mix and it stays solid even in my car in Florida summertime temps. A little too hard probably, esp if I want something to go into hunting season (as cold as 30 and as hot as 90 are possible...

New idea for a Range/Cleaning Rod?

Possibly, but my range rod is a big heavy solid brass piece with steel handle, weighs TONS more than the selfie stick. Additionally, with the collapsing stick I don't need to figure out a way to hang it under the barrel, drill the stock, etc. Think finding a way to put the proper threaded bit...
