    Sight setups?

I have one of ther Merit optical devices that Rifleman spoke of and it is a very good device but like he said, it is a bit pricy. Before I got the Merit device, I used a piece of electrical tape with a pinhole in it stuck on my glasses. You will have to experiment with the size of the pin hole...

    Round ball ,Bullet Display

Nice display!! :hatsoff: I agree with the mention that some are not truly muzzleloading bullets.....but it is still a very nice display.

    Sight setups?

Well, if you ever had to go to a scope on your muzzleloadng rifle just to be able to shoot targets, Dixie Gun Works has a couple that are appropriate for muzzleloaders of a late period...

    Sight setups?

"Dead before blind I bet" Yep, blindness following death would be expected. :haha: You might want to try a peep sight. I think Track of The Wolf has some that would fit your rifle. https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Search.aspx?search=tang%20sights After that, you could be faced with...

    Sight setups?

My personal preference is a blade front sight with a buckhorn rear sight with only a little bit of light showing on either side of the view of the front sight. The positioning of the front sight is pretty well fixed in all cases. It is the position of the rear sight that a personal preference...

    Muzzle UP or Muzzle DOWN?

My experience has been that most folks carry their gun with the muzzle pointed down. The exception is when the rules say specifically that the gun must be carried muzzle up. There is a reason why many matches and woodswalks specify that the guns be carried muzzle up. When the muzzle is...

    Pyrodex Powder

Clyde, all of those "facts" only matter if one wants to play dress up and try to live like Ol' Davy. On the other hand, if the shooter is like many muzzleloader shooters and only wants to shoot a muzzleloading gun and not play dress up those "facts" are meaningless. I gave up playing dress up...

    Barrel swabbing between shots

Sounds to me like the fly is stuck. Probably only a dirty lock. Get a can of spray brake or carburetor cleaner, remove your lock and flush it with the cleaner. Dry it and then give it a light oiling and it should work just fine.

    Pyrodex Powder

You are right, if you are shooting a caplock, there is absolutely nothing wrong with shooting one of the synthetics, especially if you live in a place where you can't get the real thing....or you just like to shoot synthetics. But, if you shoot a flintlock....well, real black powder is an...

    Pyrodex Powder

When you do, you can buy real black powder at Friendship when you go to either (or both) the Spring or Fall shoots. It is only about a 2 1/2 hour drive to Friendship for you and the rewards will be more than worth it. You will never have more fun with your clothes on. :haha:

    Barrel swabbing between shots

While your recipe for a between shot barrel swabbing liquid is a bit different from most, it obviously works. Your target says so. You just may have hit on something good. If I were you, I wouldn't change a thing. As you probably know, the purpose for swabbing between shots is not to...

    filler in revolvers?

I have used a powdered polymer product called Puff-Lon as a filler. That is what it is intended for. It is good stuff and works quite well but is a bit pricy and I can't see that it is much better than Cream of Wheat or corn meal. A jar of it goes a looong way. I don't use it in my...

    filler in revolvers?

I have been told and read that setting the ball as close to the mouth of the chamber as possible will improve accuracy. When my powder charge did not fill the chamber enough to put the ball at the mouth of the chamber, I have used a filler to bring the ball up. I don't know if it actually...

    Your first ML rifle

I am pretty sure that Deer Creek products in Waldron, Indiana will likely have a replacement spring for your rifle. They used to sell that rifle. I bought almost all of the parts from them to build one. The last time I checked he still had a lot of parts on his shelves.

    turnips

I'm glad there are other folks who consider these various vegetables to be good eating. When it comes to food, I do not cull much. I learned this as a child when the rule at our house was that we all sit down to dinner together and we joyfully and gratefully eat whatever mom put on the table...
