some questions for the .62 colerain shooters

i'm putting one together now, but it will be late winter before it is finished. it is the 38" long barrel also. i have hunted with a smooth bore for 25 years and wanted a .62 rifle for a little better accuracy at longer ranges. can't wait to get it done!

    .54 or .50 cal.

i think either is good, however i would look into the future and i might lean toward the .54 for elk or moose, if you think that might be a possibility.

although i haven't owned a production gun for about 25 years, about 2 months ago i bought a new crockett for an alright price to make a longer range woodchuck rifle out of. my plan is to put a reproduction full length scope on it and see how far i can reach out there with it. the gun is really...

    Good Squirrel Rifle

i'm an avid shooter of the .32 cal for squirrels, woodchucks and steel targets at home. fouling is never a problem and no swabbing between shots here. find the load that the gun likes, from ball size, patches and lube. clean up is breeze also. get a loading block for your patched balls and no...

    Took the .32 out Sunday

quote: But that same load is way too wimpy to kill a Turkey. So says Colorado DOW. Even Double the powder would not get it done........or so they say :( i shoot alot of woodchucks with my 32 out to 100 yards with 30 gr of 3f and a prb. i think a turkey would be in big trouble with that load!

    Moose hide leather

5-6 oz., is about an 1/8" thick. the place i get mine has the grain on, so it is not splits. it is very soft and pliable, as nice as anything i have ever used or seen.

    FFG or FFFG

for less than $25, you can get Lymans blackpowder handbook, and it will give you all the test loads and information that they did. very good books, with alot of information about several aspects of muzzleloaders. the newest edition covers more new things, while the first edition(about $15) does not.
