    Buying vs making shooting patches

The thing is I bet 95% or better of us buy our fabric and cut them up for our patches. I can get an untold number of patches for my .40 cal. out of a yard of Pillow Ticking, the same thing for my .50 cal. You save so much more money by cutting them yourself, also what if the store you go to is...

    1851 .36 Cal. Pietta

I reckon I was looking at the Colt reproduction of it, it has the round barrel, the others have the octagonal barrel.

    1851 .36 Cal. Pietta

Thanks guys, it makes my decision a lot easier. Personally I like the octagonal barrel on the Pietta better than the round one the Uberti.

    1851 .36 Cal. Pietta

How is the fit and polish of the .36 cal. 1851 Pietta nowadays? I'm thinking of getting one from Cabbella's. Any problems with the cylinder not lining up with the barrel or the half cock not working?.

    Davy Crockett Days

Just to give a heads up, Davy Crockett Days is the first weekend in August in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. I'll be there on Friday with my brother who lives in Athens, Al. I'm going to have my .40 cal. with me and try to get in some shoots or trailwalks if they have them.

What do you take to camp

It would depend on how far from civilization we were but I would a bring scrip. of pain killers just in case someone got hurt and we were out of cell phone range. The pain of a broke leg or arm is something I or anyone else shouldn't have to deal with if your a good ways from a hospital, say 4...

    Relaxing your springs.

I just flip the frizzen open and let the cock all the way down and then rest the frizzen on top of the cock when not shooting my rifles if I don't plan on shooting them for a while I'll remove the flint from them also.

    Scouting?

With a limit of a deer a day here in Alabama, bucks and Does become nocturnal very fast, you will only see them very early in the morning or right before dark. There are so many "Hunters" on public land I don't even hunt them any more. Some clubs have a lot of land and "green fields" so they can...

Lets Not Over Complicate the Issue

Have YOU talked to any Engineers at a Lead Foundry? If so, how did they say that hard lead can become soft then hard again? I still say you can't change the properties of lead unless you add something to it ( Like Tin or Antimony).

Lets Not Over Complicate the Issue

I for one don't believe in the theory that Lead can go from hard to soft to hard again. I just melted down about 350 Lbs. of Lead X-ray sheeting and it is very soft lead.

    Aiming with Prescription Glasses

I have the opposite problem, I need my glasses to see far away and while this makes the target in focus the sights are kinda out of focus. I see just fine up close without my glasses but then stuff 15, 20 yards away start to get blurry :surrender: .

    Pot cleaning advice please.....

I would heat it up and get a stiff brush and see if that takes it off. I have a Lee Magnum Melter dip pot. I don't empty mine but keep it around 1/2 full, that way when I turn it on the heat is transferred to the lead instead of the pot.

Lee/Lyman Mold head to head test

I load sprue up my short starter has a concave end and flattens the sprue even with the rest of the ball. I shoot 2" or less at 50 yards with my .50 cal. doing it this way.
