first post, need some help with Pedersoli identification

This looks right but as with all used BP rifles be sure to verify the previous owner did not leave it loaded. You can visually check the breech with a bore light, or compare the depth of ramrod insertion with the distance on the outside of the barrel from crown to breech. :hatsoff:

    Cva Hawken .50 rifle

Nope. That should be clean enough. Good job!

    Flintlock Caliber Confusion

Agree. 60 grains is a good target load for most BP rifles. I would think 40 grains is the top end for a pistol, with 25-35 grains being best.

    New to Muzzle loading

Actually I do use Hoppe's No. 9 on a cotton patch, but only AFTER I have thoroughly cleaned with warm water and dish soap. I find it removes stuff in the bore and cylinder that the soap and water does not. Can't say I have noticed much difference using the black powder version of this product...

    Traditions Kentucky shooting high

Thanks, Zonie. That is about what I figured as well!

    Traditions Kentucky shooting high

I took my .50 caliber Kentucky pistol to the range today along with my two Remington NMAs. It was shooting a few inches high at 25 yards very consistently. After cleaning it up at home, I gently filed down the notch in the rear sight a few thousandths. I believe that should do the trick. After...

Filing down front sight on Remington

Finally got out to the range with my NMA today. It shot several bullseyes at 25 yards, so filing to match the height of my second Remmie worked out fine for me.

The native American "tack look" is not for me but you have done a very artful job. Well done!

Filing down front sight on Remington

Well it turns out filing the sight down was easy. I gently lowered the blade height to where it is just slightly taller than the one on my other NMA. I then added a new radius on the two corners and I am ready to take it to the range for final adjustments. Thanks all!

    Percussion pistol options?

Sorry the quality is lacking on your new Trapper. Most here would advise against removing the bolster screw (what you refer to as "clean out screw") unless necessary. This pistol is made in Spain by Ardesa and may have variable quality in fit and finish. That said, if you plan to keep it you can...

Filing down front sight on Remington

My guess is that you made all that up -- but who here would know the difference?? :idunno:

Filing down front sight on Remington

This is actually a replacement stainless sight from Taylor & Co. that I took to my gunsmith who soldered it on for me. While the sight itself is not very expensive, the labor for soldering is. :nono:

    Percussion pistol options?

I started with a Traditions Trapper and it was fine, but the styling is decidedly not "period correct". However, I did like the double set triggers. I decided to sell it and pick up a Traditions Kentucky pistol in .50 caliber. I like the feel of it and it does look better next to my TC Hawken...

Filing down front sight on Remington

According to my Internet shopping, they seem to still be widely available. While I would not use them in a brass frame revolver, they do make loading very easy!

Filing down front sight on Remington

Thanks, Zonie. Yours was a very helpful response. I realize there are several variables to consider (BP load, RB size, etc.), and will go slowly. The front sight is noticeably taller than the one on my other Pietta NMA, which delivers the same load right on the POA at 25 yards.

Filing down front sight on Remington

I took my two Pietta Remington NMAs to the range today. At 25 yards one was consistently hitting 6" low (windage was perfect). Is there a way to calculate how much to take off the front sight to raise the POI about 6" at 25 yards? This is a stainless Pietta NMA revolver with 8" barrel shooting...
