Me too. I think I still have the brass thingy in the bottom of my shooting bag. Who knows it might even have powder in it

Richard, You are most welcome. Please come and give us a visit. The weather should be great, espcially if you are coing from some snow bound country. We have had a few rainy years during that time but usually it's really nice. If I can be of anymore assistance please feel free to ask. DR

    1. Is there RV camping at the range? (It seems that I heard there was, but the local officials were a challenge and most do not camp there.) Yes, I've seen RV camping at the range. You can also probably get info here Ben Avery 2. Is there RV camping close by? There is a KOA type place...

    Boiler and a cup

If it's the same as the one my buddy has you won't have any worries. What Ghost said covers it in a nutshell. My buddy once actually cooked bacon in a similar one (if not the same thing). Didn't come out real crisp but it was cooked and he didn't waste time shoveling it down.

    Lonesome Dove (COMMANCHE MOON SERIES)

While I didn't mind the "cowboy" books I thought that the Sin Killer book was awful.

    firemaking doodad?

I agree with some of what you are saying Paul. Charcloth is the best, fastest and easiest way to get an ember going. The tinder tube is a very close second. Factors like humidity and wind can sometimes play havoc with it but I usually get an ember within a few strikes of flint and steel...

    firemaking doodad?

If you have a Walmart around you that has a fabrics, check there to. Joanns is a definite but I've found it at wallyworld to. I don't know how much variation there is in the differnt packages but check them out and get one that is wound tight and looks thick and dense. I got one once that...

Any of you fella's make your own snowshoes?

For a cheap source of rawhide you might check the pet supply stores for the rawhide chew toys. You might find some of the proper size that would work with a little effort. Just soak em for awhile until they become pliable. Probably should avoid the flavored ones... you might have even more...

    Knifemaking 101

Thanks for the links, books and video ideas. I've done some poking around and found another site, it's for general blacksmithing but it has some neat projects. Blacksmithing I'm going to have to check out the place in Lakeside, I usually head up the way in the spring for a long weekend.

    Knifemaking 101

With all of the threads and neat pictures from you knifemakers, I'm getting an itch to try my hand at it. Here's my main problem/s 1. Don't have a clue to what I'm doing. 2. Don't have a forge or a way to heat the steel. 3. Don't have a clue to what I'm doing. 4. Wouldn't know non-knife steel...

    Terry C. Johnston

I've re-read most of them multiple times and enjoyed time as much as the last. Seams like I pick out and walk away with different things each reading.

You could also check Amazon, I've found some hard to find titles at fair prices in their used section.

good videos and books i have gotten lately

I have the Dress and Equipage of the Mountain Men video. It's pretty good, kinda glosses over some things that I wish they would have spent more time on. And then there are some things I wished they would have glossed over. Some of the stuff they talk about and show are definatley rhondy lore...

    Terry C. Johnston

They would make great action packed movies. I got a buddy started reading them and I'm constantly asking him... "You at the part where Scratch has been shot, knifed, arrowed, frozed, or starved yet?" The question works for just about every book in the series.

    TRS "Expedition" Rifle

There ya go again citing all that research... That's why I like talking to ya. I made the decision in my own mind that the contracts were most likely the rifle brought some time ago. I just wish I had more resources to do a correct contract rifle instead of the re-worked 1803.

Knife out of an Auto Leaf Spring

With all the talk about lawn mower blades and other options. Can a knife be made out of a mower blade without forging? I haven't paid close attentention to mower blades to know if it could be ground down slowly.

    TRS "Expedition" Rifle

I'm willing to bet that if a verified gun from the expedition was ever to surface the news would be big enough to go beyond the antique gun world. I think that this is one of those debates where each side has just enough evidence to make an arugment but not enough to prove their point. It's...
