    Gun Builder Mike Davis

I have my share of custom flintlocks. I have never been asked to send half or even less of up front money by any of the builders I used. All of them did ask for the lock, stock, and barrel of my choice to be sent to them. Never once did any ask for money till the rifle was built an ready to come...

    Loading Blocks

Mine are very simple. On my hunting rifles I have blocks that hold 2 patched balls an in my bags there is one that hold six balls. I dont have any pics of the blocks alone so you might have to blow up the pics to see them close. I attach them to my bag straps about heart level. Out of the way...

    New to me navy arms

Pay close attention to V.M. Starr writings. He forgot more about smoothbore shooting than most of us will ever know. I bought his book back in the early 80s an when I started loading an doing what he said then my own smoothbores started acting/shooting better. Very first thing I tried was 1f...

Riverrat all I did to that is scrape it smooth an didnt have much of that to do. Then I used aqua fortis an heat gun just like if it were maple. It will turn nearly black. Simply rub back with a scotchbrite pad to what shade or color you want. Then I applied 2 coats of the amber schellac an rub...

    .375 prb's out of a .40?

I have 3 different 40 cal rifles. All three shoot a .380 ball wrapped in a good thick pillowtick patch lubed with neatsfoot oil very well. They load easy enough to not require a short starter. Ive never tried .375s being I am happy with the .380s. You will not know till you give them a go

Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

Mine see weekly use an get hunted with. If i cant use it an have to worry about a scratch or dent then its got no business here. I recently received a 40 cal about a month ago an it has about 200 rounds thru it now. No matter how much curl carving or engraving they have they are still just a gun...

here is 54 that Don Bruton built an I finished. Walnut stock from Allen Martin. Colerain 44 in C weight barrel. Very fast Caywood lock. Don forged all the furniture. I used aqua fortis on wood an metal both and left it dark. Its a very accurate light weight all business hunting rifle.

    Brennan 40 cal

Here is a Jud Brennan built southern iron mounted 40 cal rifle. The barrel is a swamped Colerain 40 cal 42 inch flat bottom rifling made around 99 maybe 2000 but just sit in a corner an never used. The lock is a Chambers round faced english assembled an tuned by L.C. Rice. The wood is a slab...
