    Kibler Smooth?

I like and shoot both smooth and rifled, but not a great fan of the 58 cal. for an everyday shooter. If I was hunting elk, bear, moose, etc. then 58 might be a wise option, but personally the .50 is my favorite. Ammo, ie. balls are a bit cheaper, easier to work up light loads, 30 - 35 grains...

    Kibler or Caywood?

I would go with Kibler for sure. I've watched a number of his Youtube videos showing the process of assembling both of his kits. His parts are top notch, and it's my understanding that he is making via CNC machining, one of his locks. I happen to own a Caywood Fussel De Chase and it is a very...

Flintlock swabbing process? How to clean between shots?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I have a question on this. I have noticed a lot of shooters talk about swabbing between shots, or after so many, and my question is why? Honestly, is it because the bore becomes so fouled it is difficult to load, or does it have to do with accuracy? The...

    Problem with Pedersoli Jager

Bought this used, came with vent liner I described, have seen these liners for sale at several well know venders. They are great when it comes to installation, but not so when it comes to use. Made by RMC I believe. Treso and other like designs are much better, in my opinion.

    Browning solution woes

Back in the 70's when Green River Rifle Works was operating in here in Roosevelt Utah, they came up with a formula for an acid browning solution that produced one of the finest end results I have ever seen. I got some of this stuff from Doc White a number of years after they closed their doors...

    50 cal Hawhins

I purchased a Pedersoli "American Jager" a while back. This rifle comes in .54 with a 1:25 rate of twist, and I could not hit the side of a barn with it using patched round ball, even from inside the stinking barn. I was about the sell the stupid thing for what ever I could get out of it when...

    Problem with Pedersoli Jager

Did not like the liner that came in the gun, so drove the 10 miles to town to purchase a 8x1.25 tap, drove the 10 miles back home. Took the funky liner back out, chased the threads with tap, threaded Treso liner in as far as it would go then filed it flush with barrel flat so lock would rest...

    Problem with Pedersoli Jager

Ok, got a Treso liner, can't get it to thread in, not sure why, and yes it is the correct size. I took the original and opened it us as well as conning the outside opening. It requires an allen wrench to install so had to be careful not to remove all of that feature from outside of liner. Had...

    Flintlock Under $500?

True it is not HC. but there is a real nice flintlock Lyman GPR on Gunbroker right now. I would at least take a look at it. Probably wind up going for more than you want to spend, but hey, you never know.

    Problem with Pedersoli Jager

First I am going to replace the vent liner that came installed. I need to pull it anyway and see how deep it sticks into the inside of the barrel now that it has been bored out, and I am not happy with the way it is designed. I have a couple of other flintlocks with vent liners and they are...

    Problem with Pedersoli Jager

Thanks folks. There is a couple things I am now going to try. First I will remove the vent liner, see what I can from there. When the bore was in-larged and re-rifled it might have caused a problem. If every thing looks good then I will figure out my second move. I wish the lock would...

    Problem with Pedersoli Jager

I have a real nice Pedersoli Jager flintlock, but have a problem with it. I didn't like the fast twist rifling, honestly would not shoot patched round ball worth 2 cents, so had a gun smith redo it from .54 to .58. He did a great job, however the silly thing also has had very inconsistent...

    Black powder

I've always purchased mine from Powder Inc., but I just did a comparison and found Graffs to be cheaper by far, and that was including the hazmat fee and shipping. I didn't try to do so but assume you can mix different sizes in one order. When it comes time to order the stuff I seldom need...

    Complete Kibler Colonial Smoothrifle

Beautiful gun, and I love the clean simplicity of it. I have always admired the work of those with the skill and talent to carve the wood and metal on these firearms, but have never been a fan of it on any of my own. I have always had a love of wood, and enjoy working with it, not that I am...

    Black powder Storage Question

This is an interesting point, as it brings up a subject that, believe it or not, a lot of folks out there don't understand. Gasoline, as a liquid, is not flammable, and will not explode, it is the vapor that is both flammable and explosive. As most all of us know it takes a combination of...

    Black powder Storage Question

Thank you for the science, it is information I didn't know for sure. I am a member of a number of forums, my shooting hobby is rather wide spread, I like muzzle loaders, old breach loaders, like Martini Henry's, trap door Springfields, Snyder Enfield's, and Rolling Blocks. I shoot all of...

    Black powder Storage Question

Ok, so there is a thread on here dealing with the pros and cons of this argument, and I am not going to poke the bear with a stick on that one, but I do have a question which does cross the line a bit. My question has to do with where and how you store your black powder? When I first got into...

    BP vs Black MZ

I tried using Pyrodex years ago but found that it tended to soak up oil worse than real black powder did, besides I have always been a bit of a purest, like the real stuff, now having said that I was introduced to Alliant's substitute black as an alternative to the real stuff in my cartridge...

    Rebarrel of CVA Mountain??

I owned one of these years ago in .54, but can not remember what the barrel size was, 15/16ths or 1 inch. If the barrel size for both calibers is the same then you might be able to find a .54 barrel on ebay. It might take a bit of fitting to make it work but it shouldn't be much, these rifles...

    Trouble with Pedersoli Flintlock

Thanks folks, I will start by polishing the area you mentioned Dave and then go from there. Like I said in my post, I really like this rifle, although I will admit that the diameter of the bore now is a bit tricky to match ball and patch too, it is somewhat tight compared to standard .58...
