    Traditions Pennsylvania flintlock

I have a few caplocks and flintlocks. I have a Great Plains flintlock. I have seen a lot of criticisms of the Traditions Pennsylvania flintlock. I decided to ignore the criticisms, and bought one. I like the way they look, and I like the price. I'm happy, so far, with the rifle. First day...

Can I Shoot Out A Stuck Ball

I did it once. Just a few greens. It went "pffft", and the ball came out, and landed about two yards from the muzzle. Yes it will work, and no, it is not dangerous (as long as it is a few grains).

    Cutting Flint

Will a dremel saw cut flint? I tried knapping, but the pieces are too irregular.

    Texas Flint

I think what I need is a lapidary saw, the kind craftsmen use to make those pretty, polished geodes you sometimes see at craft shows.

    Texas Flint

That's what I thought. This flint was all over the place, the stream bed was filled with it. It is smooth, and durable in a flintlock, lasts and lasts.

    Texas Flint

Thanks for all your suggestions. Maybe I'll try my hand at learning to knap. I tried using a regular flat head hammer, and managed to make a useable flint (lots of sparks, and durable). Somebody I shoot at the range with suggested a ball peen hammer.

    Texas Flint

Hello, Seems my post disappeared. I went hunting in the Hill Country of Texas, near Fredricksberg. There was a stream there, and it was filled with flint. I collected some. When I got home, I ineptly managed to shape a piece for my flintlock. Sparks real well, and is durable. My question...

    Texas Flint

Hello all, I went hunting in the Texas Hill Country, and there was a stream bed that was filled with flint. I picked up a few pounds of it. I tried a piece in my flintlock, and it sparks well. Now what do I do? I do not see myself knapping the flint, looks like too big a chore. But I...

    Patched Roundball

The patch engages the rifling, and imparts the spin to the round ball. If there is no patch, there is going to be little or no spin to the ball, affecting accuracy.

    Flint vs Cap

I do not think one has any "benefits" over the other. It is about which one you have more fun shooting. When I first started with "traditional" muzzleloaders, I shot caoplock, and thought, "this is a lot more fun than modern cartidge guns." Then, when I tried a flintlock, I thought, "hey...

    Traditions Shenandoah 50 Flint

Traditions "traditional" muzzleloaders are not known for their quality. Many consider them to be poor at best. With the condition you describe, I would take the rifle off of the sellers hands if he gave me $20.00.
