    Cva Hawken .50 rifle

I use a metal "range rod' for cleaning and general shooting at the range. It saves wear and tear on my wooden ramrods that go with my rifles. These are nice little rifles. I have one, and most of the CVA's that I have shot are extremely straight shooting guns. I hope you enjoy yours.

thoughts on an electric casting pot...

I have one of the Lee Production Pots. It is bottom pour and works great. I have ran several thousand balls through it so far with no problems. If you want to try that style out before buying one, let me know and we can try to get together one of these weekends.

    .018 VS .015 thick patch

This is something you will have to try and see for yourself. No two barrels are the same. I will tell you this though. I use the .018 patches in my .50 cals with both .490 and .495 roundballs. It is something you will have to try and let your rifle tell you what it likes. Your groups will show it.

    Caps

The ones I bought were #11's. I don't know about being old or not but they fired just fine. I have gone through about half a tin so far. Every one fired off perfect. Better than the last tin of CCI's I bought.

    Caps

I just bought 12 tins of 100 caps from there and would definitely do it gain. after all was aid and done I paid roughly $6 dollars a tin. I can't beat that price anywhere around here. And I had my order 3 days later. I will definitely order from them again and recommend them to others.

    Rifles for lefties

There are some Lefties made by CVA out there as well. Most are very straight shooting guns and fairly cheap to buy.

    Need caps?

I saw that they have quite a few of the Remingtons left. $2.99 per 100. I may have to order a thousand or so. That figures out to $6.53 per 100 after shipping and hazmat. Not bad at all. I've been paying $9.00 per 100 for them locally.

    Need caps?

Was there a Hazmat fee or just the $7.95 flat rate shipping fee? I may have to order some from them if it was just the flat rate

    Remington #11's

I haven't noticed any difference in the firing of them and Remington is about the only cap I use anymore after havin reliability issues with the CCI's. The Remingtons always fire on my rifles. The cap splits a little more than they used to but that just means they don't get stuck on my nipple...

    Making verses buying balls

If you have a good mold, the separation line would be very minimal. I have been using hand molded balls for years and haven't noticed a problem with the line throwing anything off. It is far cheaper to mold my own. Its kinda fun too, especially when the neighbors or neighborhood kids come by and...

Percussion Caps is there a shortage

If you were closer, I could hook you up with almost two whole tins. I bought two tins of 10's by accident a few years back and have no use for them. I think I know of a place up here that has quite a few tins for cheap as well. if you was closer I'd steer you in that direction.

    cute little thing

I know there used to be several companies that made rubber butt cushions for rifles and shotguns. Some of them extended the butt end of the gun 1 to 3 inches. That could extend the LOP out to a tolerable length for you with something that wasn't permanent. If you could find one of those it would...

    Buckhorn for CVA Mountain

I have a set on mine. I picked mine up at Friendship. I'll see if I can find the business card for the guy I got mine from. I also picked up a short silver front site for mine. Dixie Gun Works, Track of the Wolf, Pecatonica, and most of the other Gun builder supply houses should have what you...

    Places to make smoke......

Makensmoke Glad to be of help. I figured you should have been able to find something on that side of the state. Ohio Ramrod I might have to start going to some of your shoots as well. I think its only about an hour or so from me. Maybe once work lets up a bit and we aren't working so many...

    Places to make smoke......

I don't know about much about where you are. There should be some clubs over that way. Have you checked the NMLRA website for their charter clubs yet? That would be a start. I'm on the opposite side of the state from you or I would suggest you checkout the club I'm in. Hopefully you can find...

    CCI and me, it's over

Brian, Yep, CVA is Spanish, or at least they were for awhile. They started out being made here in the USA. I don't remember whether they went to Italy or not. I do understand about not having much choice in caps. All I can find around here local is the CCI. I had to make a special trip today to...

    CCI and me, it's over

Brian, its not an Italian CVA. Its one of the early models from the 70's, low numbers on an American made barrel. I have had the rifle for 25 years. Never had problems with it til the last year or so. I have shot CCI almost exclusively through it since the late 80's. This has been a problem for...

    CCI and me, it's over

I don't blame ya for gettin rid of the CCI's. The last 5 tins I have used have all been bad. These were all tins purchased in the last year. Both Magnums and regular. 10's and 11's. About 80 percent of the caps were bad. Took a minimum of two hammer drops to set them off.I think their quality...
