    hand files

:idunno: I would like to know where others buy their hand files. The reason that I ask is I know you get what you pay for and I am working on a trigger gard for a CVA of mine that I bought that was missing it, anyway I have a nice Swiss Made file and it is great then I bought a half round file...

    Routing out the barrel channel

Actually I would love to know how to do it by hand but a lot of people say to use a router, it makes me nervious expensive wood + highspeed bit = fancy firewood.. So if you can explain how to do it by hand and the tools and methods I am all ears at least two of them.

I was wondering what type of router bit is used when you do the barrel channel? I just want to know because I will be attempting it here in a short while and would like any input. Thanks, Andy

Wow it sounds pretty involed, I am new to the whole rifle building idea. Do not get me wrong I really want to do it but I also just want to know what all is involed and more importantly how others do it, I do not like reinventing the wheel. Thanks for all of the advice. Thanks, Andy

How do you cold forge stuff?

I am intertested in learning how to cold forge parts for ml's as it pertains to build rifles. The reason I ask is that I am going to talk to a guy who is well known for building his ml's and he told me that he "cold forages his butt plates thimbles and etc.. not knowing what this means I assume...

The best way to inlett a barrel channel?

I have a CVA cap lock .50 cal, that is in okay condition but has a synthetic stock on it so for fun I want to make a wooden stock for it. The barrel is octangonal and the stock is some what of a hawken style. But I was wondering how does one inlet a barrel channel, and if there is a tutorial on...

    Ramrod sticking past Barrel?

Well the person who told me this was a self procailmed gun "expert" and he has one muzzleloader so I take what he says about MLs with a grain of salt. I have learned that BP is a whole different animal. And what applies to modern arms does not apply here in most cases. But hey it never hurts to...

    Ramrod sticking past Barrel?

I was told that if your ramrod was sticking past the barrel that it would adversly effect your accuracy, is that true? I have seen numerious rifles with the ramrod pertruding past the barrel. One other question if I may is what is the purpose of having the ramrod stick out so far? Thanks, Andy

    Patches for Round balls

WOW! That is a lot to digest but I sounds good to me. I really want to thank you guys for your advice. I just yesterday joined a local ML club and talked to some of the guys there about this and got the same answer. So I will have to spend some time at the range (OH DARN!) Thanks again for the...

    Patches for Round balls

I am new to bp shooting and I have always wondered how do you figure out the thickness of patch to use. Do you start out with a certain size and if the gun does not like it do you then make adjustments? I know this may sound like an elementary question but I really have no idea where to start...

    Thoughts on Traditions Kits

Thanks for the advice, I would be leaning more toward the hawken style gun anyway, and like you guys I do not care for the split stock on the penn. rifle. Again since I am a newbie at gun building I would prefer something a more friendly than making a gun from scratch although down the road that...
