    Pietta Barrel Swap

Dang, here's the deal. I meant one of the phoney 44 caliber barrels used on the 1851. I see that there is a carbine length barrel (in 44) offered by VTI for the 1851. I have a shoulder stock for the 1860's I own. Yes, it would be Frankengun, but I would shoot it out of sight from delicate eyes...

    Pietta Barrel Swap

I haven't found anything with the search but I thought I had read on this forum that Pietta 1851 barrels will fit on Pietta 1860 frames. Does anyone have both pistols that can check on this? Thanks.

    Colt 2nd Generation

Marc, I have 4 Piettas and one of the Centaures. Yes, the Centaure is a very well made revolver, I love everything about it, but I shoot the wheels off of all of them and gotta say it's like ice cream. All of it is good, some's just better than others.

    Small pitting vs accuracy

Er, um... don't know how that happened.

    Small pitting vs accuracy

I should have stated that mine is also inside the barrel. It has had about 500 rounds through it since I barked it up, but the accuracy is just fine. I do, however, inspect it as best I can after each cleaning.

    Small pitting vs accuracy

One of my 1860 clones has a gouge that's 1/4 inch long about halfway between breech and muzzle. It has not affected accuracy in any way. I'm sure this sort of thing can affect accuracy, I just got lucky.

    percussion cap keepers ??

My experience with the tubing has been a mixed bag. Some caps still seemed to "frag" enough to get away from the nipple and gum up the works. I'm still experimenting and haven't written them off totally.

    Home Made Adjustable Powder Measure

Good on you for thinking up a simple way to do things. It would have never occurred to me to do it that way, and I would have spent forty bucks in parts trying to make one that cost less than half that. Thanks for sharing.

    Goex cannon powder

A friend, new to black powder, bought a can last year by accident. I can use it in both rifle and revolver by putting five grains of 2f first. I don't recommend it though. It's nasty dirty and gives inconsistent accuracy for my taste. Somebody here was having some success, so maybe a search...

    dixie bag molds

Damron, does yours have a guide pin that goes from one face to the other? One other thing, mine does less than stellar when even a hair thin bit of something gets between any part of the faces. If there is any obstruction I'll get flash and odd looking conicals.

    dixie bag molds

I bought a used "hair straightener" that is one of my favorite molds. Is it me or does Dixie not carry them any longer?

    Cap-Nipple

I think it means number 12 size hole and 28 threads to the inch. I might be wrong about the hole size thing....

    # 11 nipples for Pietta

The Ampco nipples that I got from the Possible Shop fit 11's nicely, and came in a six pack. They are also a vast improvement to the ones that came with my guns.

1858 New Army Target revolver locking up

I shoot Colt clones, but have to agree that the lube is the thing. Some seem to have luck with the lubed wads but my experience is that lithium or homemade beeswax and vegetable oil lubes let me shoot all day.

    Re-bluing Pietta

I've used the paste myself. It looks more like "Parkerizing" to me when it's done and not so much like bluing. The liquid stuff seems to look more like bluing , but lacks the thickness (for lack of a better word) that the original bluing had. I'm in the same boat as you I guess.

    Kroil instead of Smoke?

My molds are aluminum, but I thought I still had to smoke 'em. So I kroiled one, smoked one and did nothing to the other. They all released the balls like champs so....

    Kroil instead of Smoke?

I was reading about this on another forum. I haven't tried it yet. I think the guy talking about it oiled them the night before and gave everything a wipe-down before casting. So far, good old smoke has worked for me, but I'm going to give the Kroil a go.

    New toy, renewed interest

I just used "Bugler" cigarette papers, they are slightly larger than the "JOB" ones that I tried first. I might try nitrating them but they seemed to burn just fine as is. I also had the fastest three cylinders of my life while using them. Fun stuff.

    New toy, renewed interest

Squirrel, I take mine out every week and it's still like having a new toy. There's always something to make or fix too. This last week I started doing the paper cartridge thing, using a tube as a jig with the ball on top and then trickling my powder into the paper, via the tube, after I've...

    Bad weather,broken spring

I have three Piettas. One had the bolt spring wear out in 18 months, the others are going on several years. When I ordered the part I ordered five, to have some on hand. That insures that I'll never have another one fail, since I'm prepared. This probably doesn't help you with Uberti, but parts...
