    Bess project

It would be worth buying it for the parts alone.

    Some of my stuff

Thanks to all of you. I really appreciate your kind comments. Rifle building is an obsession with me. I just wish that the regular tasks of living wouldn't get in the way.

Gorgeous piece of work. You should be real proud.

    Flint and Steel

I also hold the fling steady and strike down with the steel. Works much better for me.

Picked up two antique (I hope) powder horns. Wonder how old?

My guess is 1800 to 1860 or so. Could be older. It's really hard to know, but they are old. I have owned many original horns and since the building technique changed little over the years, it is very hard to tell.

    Patch lube questions and observations

Spit when at the range and any kind of animal fat when trekking (bear, deer, cow, sperm whale). These worked 200 years ago and they work now.

    square cut patches

As bad as my eyes are getting, I would do as well without a patch.

    How do you prime?

FF straight from the main horn. I never use a priming horn. I fill the pan maybe 1/3 full and it goes off quick.

    Hello from California

I have been an avid muzzleloading shooter for over forty years and a buckskinner/trekker since 1989 and a semi-fulltime gun builder since 2005, but I just got around to joining this forum. I am looking forward to the interaction and sharing of ideas. I'm glad to be a part of this site.
