    20 gauge squirrel load ?

I happened to have a powder flask that had a 55 grain spout. I tried it on squirrels and I'm surprised how well I have done with 55 grains of 3f and an ounce of 7 1/2 shot.

    So, what's in your patchbox?

    Just precut patches.

    single barrel or double smoothbore

I'm probably in the minority but I like double triggers and two different chokes in the barrels. The back trigger is for the tighter choke and you don't have to mess with the selecter.

    Range Report - need opinions

Hello Burch I have been burning a lot of powder with my 14 gauge double barrel shotgun and really having a blast but I can't get much better pattern with my cylinder bore than what you are. You might try my favorite load of 55 grains of 2f with 1 ounce of 7 1/2 shot. It's a very light load but...

    Jug choke advice

Thanks Coyote Joe, I'll give it a try. To be honest I have been shooting an even or bigger volumn of shot to powder so that may be my problem. Thanks again

    Jug choke advice

Yeah, I tried to file the muzzle a little to move the POI but it didn't seem to help. I thought it might have opened up my pattern a little so I stopped. I went ahead and bent the barrel a little today at the range and have the choked barrel right on but the cylinder barrel is now off just a...

    Jug choke advice

I bought a 14 gauge double-barrel shotgun at a gun show a while back with the intentions of having one barrel jug choked and leaving the other barrel cylinder. Always thought that would be a good all around combination. Anyway, I see where Coyote Joe doesn't do this anymore and Caywood doesn't...

    Barrel life

I just have to show off how my 32 flintlock is shooting after the advice I got from you guys. Thanks again. I have been shooting this gun for well over 30 years and this is the best it has ever shot.

The Carolian type G, Southern rifles and the Golden Age

There are many accounts of natives harvesting more than they could use. The Osages in my area were known to shoot buffalo and eat only the tongue on there summer voyage to the salt plains for salt. Waist probably varied with how plentiful game was.

    Squirrel gun?

Hello Brian As others have posted, a 45 will work but IMHO you would be a lot happier with a 32 for squirrels and I would keep looking for a trade. Another option might be to get a 32 barrel to fit your 45 gun. I have both for my rifle and really enjoy the 32 for small game and plinking and...

    range report

I had the same problem and like others have said, it was too much lube on the patch. Please let us know if this was the problem. Thanks

    Barrel life

Thanks everyone. I guess the heavily greased patches were at least most of the problem with my accuracy. I shot just resting on the hood of my truck and shot a five shot 1 1/2" group after the first shot at 31 yards which is about as good as my old eyes will do with any gun. I just used spit...

    Barrel life

Hanshi, thanks for the reply. I have always been happy with a 1" group @ 25 yards since I mostly use the 32 gun for squirrel hunting and felt that was plenty good for that purpose. I'm not even getting close to that now. The range is closed for rifle today but I can take it and do some...

    Barrel life

I agree there has to be a lot of wear on the crown of the barrel and may be the problem. I have lost accuracy so quickly that I feel like I may be doing something different when I load it. The only thing I can think of is that I may be putting more grease on my patches. Is it possible the...

    Barrel life

I put together a flintlock from parts I got from The Golden Age Arms shortly after I got out of high school. I am now 58 and the gun has been shot thousands of times and always cleaned afterward with a cleaning jag on the wooden ramrod. It has a 32 cal Douglas barrel which has never had any...

    Haddaway lock?

This sounds crazy but I heard that the frizzen on Haddaway locks were radioactive. I know, it sounds crazy and wondered if anyone else had heard anything about this.

    Safety notch on lock

Thanks guys for the replys. You are right, my flintlock spring would be under simular pressure at half cock, I guess but on this shotgun, it really looks odd when the hammer is in the safety notch. Others will think I have the gun cocked and ready to shoot.

    Safety notch on lock

I just bought an orginal percussion muzzleloading shotgun today and had a question about the half cock or safety position on the lock. In this position the hammer is a good 1 1/2" from the nipple. To me, it looks like the half cock position was to put the caps on the nipples and then the...
