Why are or aren't you an NMLRA member?

I have been a member off and on since the 80's. I have an animal in the record book. I have not shot at Friendship but would like too. I am a member of a local NMLRA charter club and just returned home from our monthly shoot. I have been a member of the state association for ML. If we think of...

    TC Cherokee

Back in the 80s I built a Cherokee from a kit for my daughter. My granddaughter shoots it now. Last April she took second in women's division for the Texas State Silhouette Championship with it. The load we workwed up is 45 gr of 3FFFg Goex using a.018 Tefflon coated ticking patch with a .445...

    Percussion to Flinter

You can replace a percussion drum with a flash hole liner and exchange locks. You'll have to shop around to find a lock that might fit your gun or you can just fit a new one to the gun. What is all important is being sure the pan correctly lines up with the touch hole. I'm partial to Siler...

    T/C Cherokee/Seneca question.

My 21 year-old grand daughter is shooting a .45 Cherokee that I did from a kit. It's a tack driver. It's load is 43 grains of 2ffg Geox with a .445 round ball with a .018 Teflon patch. I chronograph-ed it at 1385fps. She did a great job on 100yard rams at our clubs last silhouette shoot.

Why do you shoot a muzzle loader?

I got into ML 'cause we leased a house when we were stationed in Arizona that had a massive stone fireplace with a fantastic mantle. I thought that a fireplace and mantle like that deserved a flintlock rifle. I grew up hunting and fishing in Minnesota but got away from it when I went away to...

Help selecting between guns for elk hunting

I've left my flinter loaded during the season. After the day I would block the touch hole with a toothpick. During the day I would occasionally prick the vent and prime with fresh powder. I didn't experience any ignition problems with this system.

Schutzen 3fg in .50 Green Mountain

In the middle 80s I was very fortunate to be in the right place and at right time to have a custom .50 cal flintlock rifle made for me. The gun maker loaned me his chronograph and said to start with 2f and 3f whatever brand powders I could find. He also said to try .490, .495 and .50 round balls...

    New to Forum

Hi all, I'm looking forward to participating in this outstanding community. A major factor in my enjoyment of muzzle-loading is the great community of fellow front stuffers I find no matter where I go to shoot. After a 18 year hiatus I am finally back at it again. I'm a flintlock shooter.
