    Remington vs Colt?

Been some time since my last post. Got rid of most of guns when we moved to the Southwest. Recently picked up a Pietta 1858 Remington, made the mistake of stopping at a new pawn shop. Got it (steel frame) for $85.00 out the door. It is the first cap&ball that I have been able to shoot more than...

How do you buy your guns?

Most have been impulse buys. Some a good deal and others are ones I always wanted.

    Juker 45

Yes there is a 1/4"+ of wood between the lock plate and the nipple extension. Am going to spend some time this morning at the range and shoot for groups with different loads. and patches. Gun is nicely finished and barrel is polished and browned. Just wish the front sight was taller.

    Juker 45

Pawn shop find, it has a low front sight that appears to be soldered on and shot about a foot hi at 15 yd. The breach is a snail but not hoked and barrel is pined. There is about 6" of rifled barrel. Is there another option to dove tailing a higher front sight. The sights (triangle front and V...

    Cyndi's view of the future...

There is a lot of knowledge in books and on disks but there is big difference between reading about and actually being able to do some thing. A good friend (A Yakima Indian) used to lament that he had not been interested when his grand parents tried to teach him the old ways. He was one of the...

    Powder prices, Yikes!!!!

It is the same here in Spokane ($ 25.00). I bought some in the 1990s for less than $10.00 a can. Caps are about $6.00 here and lead 45 balls are $15.00. It is getting close to $.50 a shot to shoot, but I cast the balls and cut my own patches so it is a little less.

Pyrodex P in 45 PRB rifle?

I tried Pyrodex RS in my CVA 45 Kentucky and had slow ignition or misfires with standard caps but shot OK with magnum caps (CCI). Now am shooting Goex FFG and is OK but one of the muzzle loading regulars suggested Goex FFFG might be better. This got me to thinking that Pyrodex P may also work...

    Lee round ball moulds?

I have used Lee molds for 15 years, a long with some others. Never any problems with Lee and they are a lot cheaper. Most of my casting is for center-fire but have used lee round ball molds for a 45 rifle and a old army.

We spent 6 winters in Arizona, it is nice but the summers are better in Spokane area 115 to 120 is just too hot for me. I did like the area around Kingman though and have thought of relocating there.

    CVA Kentucky bore rust?

Actually Spokane is on the dry side (eastern Washington). The Seattle area is where the rain is. Our humidity is 30% or less and rain fall is 12 to 15 inches a year. When we were full time RVers we spent the winters in Arizona (liked it) but left before it got hot. Thanks for all the help,am...
